A decent latakia mixture with a hint of sweetness to the latakia and not as smokey a flavor as some of The Smoker's other English mixtures. I give this three stars, because it is a good blend, but there are others in my rotation that I will choose first.

Like so many blends that claim to imitate Balkan Sobranie 759, this one is not even close and cannot really even be classified as a Balkan.

This must be the stuff Satan gave to Stalin when he welcomed him to Hell.

Appearance: A mixture of light and dark tobaccos, ribbon cut with granular pieces thrown in. Even though this tobacco was fairly dry in the pouch, it took 2-3 light-ups to get the bowl going. Once it starting cooking though it was worth the wait. For an English blend it starts off with a light, agreeable taste of Latakia with the smokiness of Perique. As the smoke progresses down the bowl the strength increases dramatically. The very end is best. The Virginia's, Latakia and Perique come together with what can only be described as a carmelized sweetness with the Perique very much out front. I've found that most of the British blends from The Smoker tend to do this. The Perique really dominates at the bottom of the bowl. Actually it's very pleasant, but you have to love Perique (as I do) in order to appreciate this quality. I would highly recommend this blend for the English lover who wants a break from the tinned versions on the shelf. The Smoker is a classic tobacco in the true sense of the word. The only reason I don't rate it higher is that it is surpassed by still other blends from Mel Feldman of "The Smoker". But that's another review for another time...
