Kilmarnock Piper introduced me too this amazing blend. I have smoked only a handfull of blends, as I am new too this hobby. I love latakia, and I was told that this circa 1960's tobacco will give me a feel of what a very well aged latakia blend can do after time. It could have been the time, it could have been the place or the people I was around at the time, but I enjoyed those four small bowls more then any other tobacco I have smoked. It was mellow. Very relaxing. I did have a heck of a time keeping it lit. Most all tobaccos it takes me two matches to send a bowl to white ash, but per bowl, I used about six matches. It could have been my packing method? I also am a sipper, so the tobacco might have needed some extra motivation to stay lit. All and all, and amazing blend.

First off let me give a special thanks to Kilmarnock Piper whom was quite generous in giving me a sample of this fine blend. The sample provided was very well aged and arrived at the perfect moisture content for me - dry. This is a blend that I payed attention to particularly while smoking. The latakia in this blend is smooth and creamy - probably due to the age. The virginias are nice and lend a nice support to the latakia. The flavor is medium in intensity and stays pretty consistant through out the bowl. I did not find alot of complexity through out the bowls smoked, however the flavor and burning qualitys are very nice. If this were readily available it would make for a very nice all day kind of smoke. The smell that wafts from the bowl is very pleasing to me. This is just a good, no nonsense kind of blend that if I could get a hold of would cellar up on. Highly recommended if you can find it for those that enjoy a light to medium english style blend.

Not made anymore, a sealed Ebay tin from the 70s. Maybe the 60s: no barcode. If anyone has tried it fresh and can recall enough to review it, please do. I prefer Virginias to Englishes, but do not avoid English blends. My favorite Englishes are ones like these that are very, very well aged. They develop a mellowness that I like, and I think I like Latakia better when it's old and musty. I wonder what happened when the four monks got together with the three nuns? (I think they actually had that joke back then!) Well, I will enjoy this and a couple other blends somewhat like it for some time, since they are not everyday smokes for me, and I can't see them changing too much more than they already have.
