Collectors is a very straightforward blend, with nice tobacco taste and little or no flavoring/casing. The quality of tobacco is high, and the VA's and burley are in fine proportion. The cavendish helps round out the blend, but be careful - it can bite if puffed hard.

This is a nice smoke if you're looking for a relaxing bowl. It's not extrememly thought-provoking, nor is it going to have you yearning for another bowl to re- examine the nuances of flavor that you may have missed in the last one, but it is a nice diversion if you're in the mood for an easygoing smoke to pass the time. Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but not a knock, either. It's just fine tobacco that smokes well.

Update (4/9/11): After smoking my way through 2oz. or so of this blend, I felt I had to add a star to my rating. This is a nice blend of quality tobaccos that seems to "fill-out" the more you smoke it. I find myself enjoying it more every time I fill a bowl.

I happened to actually get hold of an old unopened tin that had been sitting around for a while, and I have to say, aging really didn't do all that much for this blend. I found it to be rather bland and a bit on the harsh side. Maybe this is something you have to smoke right away? Nice tin though and looks great sitting next to some of my pipe paraphernalia. If I ever try a fresh one, I'll add another note here, but I definitely won't go out of my way to buy it.

A handsome blend that smells really good in the pouch. If you like Aromatics this is one of the better ones. I usually avoid tobaccos with the word "Cavendish" in the description and should have followed my instincts with this one too. A little too much tongue-bite for this piper.
