Bayou Dog
| Brand: |
Jack's Tobacco |
| Blender: |
Joe Harb |
| Tin Description: |
The Bayou Dog can find the Perique whether it's hidden in a cask at the back of the shed or mixed in with the rich matured Virginia, exotic Turkish, and dark, fragrant Cyprian Latakia tobaccos in this blend. Developed to commemorate Jack's Tobacco's 14th Anniversary, Bayou Dog is smooth, well-balanced, and rich in flavor and aroma. The Perique comes out at the first light and stays throughout the bowl, with a finish that will bring the Bayou Dog to sit contentedly at your side to savor his favorite scent. If you can't find the Perique in the first bowl, you'll just have to have another. |

| I think the Perique is the real star of this blend. Yeah, the Latakia is in the driver's seat, but about halfway through the Perique starts putting its two-cents worth in and it's quite nice. It adds a nice top-note to the Latakia which is very refreshing. The Virginia's do a nice job of holding it all together and the Turkish plays a very small, almost condiment role. Overall, very well-balanced.
It packs, lights and stays lit very well. The room note is somewhat strong, but my wife doesn't complain about this one too much.
Highly recommend to those of you who like your English with a little "cajun" in it.

| Again, another McClelland product re-worked with a heavier Perique component. Your call. You have been informed.

| Many thanks to Joe Harb (a tobacco blender who is now a reviewer for Pipes and Tobaccos Magazine) for sending me about a dozen of his creations to smoke and review here. There's only one thing better than pipe tobacco and that's FREE pipe tobacco. (-;
I found this dog to be Best of Breed. I liked the complexity of flavors without feeling like I took a Perique bath. Perique lovers please note, there is not a Jack's Tobacco blend that doesn't endear itself to Perique hounds to some extent.
This puppy is rather restrained in strength and taste, and due to the smoothness of the leaf and elegant roll of flavors, it can be enjoyed all day.
Winner, winner, chicken dinner!
