Wittkittels

Brand: Dan Tobacco
Blender: Dan Tobacco
Tin Description: Wittkittels ("whitecoats") is what the citizens of Hamburg used to call their firemen in the old days, because of their white uniforms. A "ready rubbed flake", i.e., cut up ready to smoke. A feast for the tongue for the pampered light smoker. Various grades of Virginia from bright golden yellow to deep brown present an interesting picture and soft, mild smoking pleasure. A gentle flavouring refines the taste and puts its stamp on the good room note.

Wittkittels is a high quality blend. The tin has a mixture of ready rubbed , nice smelling tobaccos at a wonderful grade of moisture. Can be smoked all day. It has a effortles, cool and slow buning smoke. Some fruity flavor touch made a good combination wit the high quality Virginias. A very little Cavendish proportion I think has been added into the blend.

In my current run to catch up with tobaccoes that I haven't tried (but should have) since I picked up pipe smoking over 20 years ago, I got this blend a few days ago in a package I had ordered from Dan Pipe.

The Wittkittels comes in a tin more reminiscent of a small can of chili beans. Pulling off the aluminium seal rewarded me with a good VA tobacco smell with a side note of something fruity.

As with all ready rubbeds, stuffing is easy, and lighting a bit hard unless you finely rub a pinch of the tobacco to top off the pipe. It burns slowly and coolly, and the taste is predominantly mellow VA. The room note is also mostly VA tobaccoes with a hint of fruitiness in it; unobtrusive but pleasant.

I could smoke this weed all day; it's got a gentle sweetness, is easy to handle, and won't burn hot. Then again, it's not something to get you excited about either. Good solid tobacco.
