The Blender`s Pride - Herbal Fruit

Brand: HU - Tobacco
Blender: Hans Wiedemann
Tin Description: “Herbal Fruit“ - the days of heat are past and the end of summer nears, bringing with it a slight feeling of melancholy. These are moments when smoking a relaxing pipe outdoors is an particularly pleasurable experience. “Herbal Fruit“ is a strong-flavored Fire Cured Kentucky Broken Flake gently seasoned with a seductive, fruity aroma. Earthy, natural, slightly fruity and sweet. The punchy Kentucky Broken perfectly complements the fruity notes of the aromatizing ingredients. The result is a blend like the warm sunshine on a late summer day, intense and strong, but also delicate and fruity. …I have a dream...(Martin Luther King)

It is very much worth the effort to contact Hans at HU - it is hard to imagine that such interesting and compelling tobacco blends come from a man who does this...as a sideline.

It will take me more time with the Herbal Fruit blend to provide a detailed description of its components - it is very subtle, and absolutely worth trying.

As a smoker who favors aromatics, vanilla / cocoa varietals, I discussed my preferences with Hans and included this blend into a recent shipment which also included Dockworker, Tillerman, Junkers et al. - a broad range given the scarcity of HU stateside and need to have some shipping efficiency when importing from Germany.

Very interesting tobacco with more detailed comments assured in the near future.

Update: Wonderful sweetness peeks through mild herbal, floral, piney notes. Wife raves about room note. 'Nuff said. No bite, despite my best efforts to see if I could bring it on. "Rub it, burn it, mark it with a "B", pack it in the bowl for baby and me".

This is a blend which puzzled me on the first run. Reading about the flavous added, I thought... huh... just another "aromatic" ???

Hence, I'm glad I bought a tin of this wonderful weed!

There is, of course, a "fruity" aroma, but what dominates the blend is an outstanding selection of tobacco leaf. To some extend it reminds me to swell 'Dark Kentucky' from Orlik on the one side, but on the other hand, HF is a quite unique blend on its own.

I think Hans Wiedemann/HU-Tobacco didn't compromise on any choice for ultimate quality tobacco leaf, which consequently makes Herbal Fruit the most expensive blend in his product range... but, I think it is well spent money and worth any single penny.

Full, rich, creamy and fully satisfying smoke of the VA/KY combo and its inherent friendly surprises, with an always non-fading gentle fruity aroma, somewhat similar to the scent of sweet and warm "calendula baby oil", however dominated by excellent, fine and overwhelming tobacco taste. Role model !!!

Herbal Fruit is, together with Director's Cut, one of the less inexpensive blends from HU-Tobacco, the costs of the tobacco's used in both these blends prohibits a lower price. In Herbal Fruit, it is the dark-fired Kentucky that is used and together with a mild-medium Mango/toffee flavouring, a delicious tobacco is created: mild, sweetish and slightly smoky, especially towards the end. It is a dark, pressed and rubbed out blend with good burning properties, no tongue bite and with a full tobacco flavour that is not drowned out by the casing. Highly recommended!

It’s not very often that the words complex and aromatic are found in the same sentence. Even rarer are the words dark fired and aromatic found in the same sentence too. With a name like “Herbal Fruit” it would be easy to believe that this is a fruity, cloying, cheap aromatic. Well, it’s not, not by a country mile! Herbal Fruit is one of the finer aromatic tobaccos to ever occupy one of my pipes. The dark broken flakes offer a light aromatic scent, but this is a first class tobacco that happens to have some aromatic flavoring added to it. The berry taste is similar to the discontinued Dunhill Three Year Matured. With that said, this is a far better tobacco than the old Dunhill blend. The tobacco flavor dominates with a nice berry taste in the background. As the bowl progresses, the Kentucky grows in strength and the berry flavor falls back to nearly gone by the last quarter of the bowl. I think this will appeal to experienced aromatic smokers and non-aromatic smokers alike. Herbal Fruit is a high quality tobacco with a bit of a nicotine kick and how often does one say that about an aromatic?!?! Highly Recommended
