Selected Blend No.04 Loose Leaf

Brand: W.O. Larsen
Tin Description: An outstanding blend of long threaded mixture tobaccos and tiny loose leaves from the most important tobacco provinces in the world - Virginia from North Carolina and Brasil, Burley from Tennessee and Mexico, and Toasted Black Cavendish from Malawi. This unique blend will give you many hours of enjoyment as it is slow - and easy burning. The delicate top flavor lends a fresh taste to this blend. Our opinion: Light to medium strength, and a slightly aromatic flavour.

Bought a 100g tin at one of my local tobacconists when I was searching for a light summer smoke. The tobacco mixture is rather bright and broad-cut. Its moisture level right out of the tin seems close to perfect, perhaps even close to a bit on the dry side. The tin aroma points at nearly or completely unflavored, although the description on the producer's homepage states a light whiskey & plum flavoring, while the tin description(german version) states nothing about top flavor but mentions that the mixture contained a pinch of latakia to round things off. The baccy is easy to stuff, lights really good and is no big deal to keep lit. Flavors remind me of a light to medium virginia Blend, with the Black Cavendish in the background and the Burley poking out its head here and there. The Latakia seems to be there only in a very small ammount, but I got throughout the whole bowl time and again a nice spicy undertone. As far as the top flavor goes, I got to state that imho W.O. Larsen did a fine job with this one. The plum & whiskey are both there, but very midly so and do not kill the tobacco's original taste. They rather spice up the blend and also give it a quite nice room note. Overall the blend tastes like a mix of VA, slightly sweet plum / citrus, smokey whiskey and malt with a spicy undertone. The baccy generates as good as no tongue bite or moisture and burns down to clean grey-white ash.
