| The great thing about tobaccos is that everyone has their favorites.
One of my favorites is the Orlik Golden Sliced in the red tin. To me, Shamrock Flake is a much different animal than the Orlik Golden Sliced.
In the tin, this tobacco is a good shade darker than the Orlik and there is no smell of any additional flavorings.
The flakes are about 2.5" wide and are not cut into length; A continuous flake that has been carefully folded over before tinning.
I take a piece the flake and let it dry outside of the tin for a good half hour before smoking and then rub the flake out into small pieces.
The flavor here is wonderful - creamy, woody, pure Va. As I progress down the bowl, this VA picks up strength. What I really enjoy is the "body" in this VA. Most VA flakes are thin in the middle, almost a tad sharp. Shamrock is full and round, not quite as full as FVF by Sam Gawith but not nearly as light as the Orlik Golden Sliced. The nicotine is medium-full in strength.
If you will let this tobacco dry out before lighting and fully rub it out, you will need a minimum of re-lights. And, since this is more flavorful than most VA flakes with this bright, woody taste, I do not experience any of the usual tongue tingling/bite that I normally get from Medium bodied VA's.
Highly recommended - and I'm curious to read more reviews of this wonderful flake. As it's unavailable in the USA, I ordered mine from www.danishpipeshop.com and I plan on ordering much more for the cellar. Outstanding flavor.
An email from Neils Popp at the Poul Olsen store in Denmark confirms that, "The Shamrock Flake is one of the oldest Danish Tobaccos on the market. It is a pure Virginia Type."
A very nice, Medium to full Va flake without additional flavors. The flavor is medium but the "body" of the smoke is full. Very satisfying. Why doesn't someone import this tobacco?
