One of the six tins I got in my most recent package from Dan Pipe contained this blend. As with Seute Deern, the illustration on the tin is a drawing by Wilhelm Busch - - "Julchen."

Opening the tin, I was greeted by a beautiful sweet aroma that reminded me more than a little of Stanwell/Orlik Black Diamond. The only optical difference between that and Swatte Deern is the cut; Swatte Deern is a varied cut with some ribbons and some squarish bits in there, with a few ready rubbed flake leftovers. It's mostly Black Cavendish with the VA standing out brightly.

The comparison with Black Diamond continues: Swatte Deern stuffs easily and handles itself well; a minimum of maintenance is needed. The taste and strength are comparable, as is the room note. A single char and light will let the tobacco burn down to a plain grey ash; the taste is steady throughout the smoke.

Overall, good solid tobacco. Not too much strength, but certainly pleasing to the audience (or should that be the olfactience?).
