This Wessex offering is of good quality and I rather enjoyed the taste although it is very much on the mild side. This one will not go with my morning coffee because there's no "pick me up," in this flake.

The smell in the tin was somewhat grassy. The flake is an easy rub and stays lit remarkably well. The moisture content was perfect and the leaf burns a little faster than most flakes.

I found this to be very similar to Rattray's Brown Clunee.

More nicely prepared flakes ~ 3"x2" in this blend from the house of Wessex that contains mostly darker VAs. The inital mositure leve, packing, lighting, smoking properties and tin and room aroma are all good and quite consistent with other flakes that I've tried from this blender. However, I found this on the mild side for a 'Navy' and lacking in flavor and development. Towards or at the end of the smokes, my mouth felt unusually dry. Maybe you need a six pack to go with a bowl of this blend. Even within the Wessex flakes, I prefer their brown VA and Brigade Campaign Dark flakes' tastes.

This was suggested to me as a CAPSTAN Medium doppelganger. The taste here is somewhat more sec, probably because there is little or no topping. This implies a hint of blandness (correct) but the flavour develops very smoothly and becomes a steady, not-too-stoved delight.

An outstanding, middleweight flake.
