Although not as well known for his American style as his English blends, Mel Feldman is keeping a great tradition alive. Most if not all of his American blends hark back to the way American tobacconists blended in the 1930's and 40's. Proctors (probably named for an old movie theater landmark in Schenectady, N.Y.) fits in here perfectly. When I first lit it up I was struck by the smoothness of this blend. It had such a smooth and delicious quality to it that I wanted to immediatly inhale this tobacco (which is something I am normally loathe to do). The cubed and broad cut burley base makes it smoke extremely slow and cool. The sweet note seems to be coming from a different source other than the Virginia and Latakia ...maybe some Turkish? The "I don't know what it is" quality keeps you guessing as you puff away. This is a blend that is much more complex than the description reads. An all day smoke that will leave you wanting more at the end of the bowl.
