| The highest art of the tobacco blender is pure Virginias. No one does this better than McClelland. My cellar is full of their tins. The pure Virginias of other blenders give Virginias a bad name by biting the tongue. I opened my first tin of Blackwoods extra some twenty years ago and my records show that I rated it then as a zero bite. I kept it in a glass canning jar for about twenty years and just started smoking it again. It is as smooth as butter on the tongue yet as flavorful as mustard to the nose. It is everything an artificially flavored tobacco WANTS be but can never be because Blackwoods extra is, of course, all natural and the Virginia blend yields its own natural flavors. I would not break in a new pipe with a pure Virginia blend, but in a well-smoked pipe, there is nothing better. Nothing. btw, I am a "sipper"--I devote all my concentration to the pipe and enjoy every bowl for at least two hours or more until nothing is left but ash and I rarely need to relight.

| As a fan of Blackwoods Flake, this tobacco peaked my interest. I had purchased this in bulk from my local B&M and after realizing that I had gone through the two ounces in short order,I had to get more. At first glance, this flake is deep brown, almost black.I did not detect the infamous McCellend Ketchup smell. The Flakes are meatier which require some rubbing out and moisture content lends itself to be dried out a little. I first tried this blend in a cob which burned well with only two re-lights. Initally, the Flavor is somewhat tangy but mellowes quickly. Flavor stays throught the bowl. I had a bowl that I let die out and came back to it some hours later only to find deeper flavor. I highly recomend this blend.
