| P&W's description of this pipe-weed sounded just like what I was looking for -- an English blend with the base tobaccos able to play their parts without bullying by Latakia or Perique. I placed my order with much anticipation.
The cut made loading effortless, and the same can be said for lighting. This smoke was off to a great start.
The top third of the bowl was full of flavor, drawing me further into the experience, almost teasing the tongue. The VA is not sugary sweet -- another welcome change. I'm guessing the flure-cured Africans were adding considerable richness, as promised by the blender's description.
The middle regions of the bowl saw the fullness increasing slightly, with a pleasant interplay of each tobacco. I was delighted to find the VA remaining robust rather than sweet. Some complexities were occuring with the Orientals that were unusual for me. I expect this is what happens when Latakia and/or Perique are made to stay at home.
The bottom third of the bowl remained pleasant for only a few puffs. A sudden downturn developed as a disagreeable charcoal taste increased. I dumped at that point, parting friends.
For those smokers weary of Latakia, or tired of Perique, that just want to taste some quality base tobaccos for a solidly satisfying smoke, Old English is recommended without reservation.

| If you wanted to try an English blend, but don't like Latakia, here is your blend. This is a deceptively simple, but excellent blend of Virginia and Turkish tobacco. It is slightly sweet, tangy, almost citrusy. It does pack a bit of nicotine, so if you are sensitive to it, go slowly.
If you love the aroma of fine oriental tobacco, you can't go wrong with this. It burns beautifully to a fluffy white ash.
This blend will be the perfect hot weather English for me, when Latakia blends are just too heavy.

| This mixture is one of very few oriental blends without latakia (try the ?find similar? button above!). The orientals that Carole uses are among my favorite leafy vegetables and I wish more blenders would use them. (A latakia-containing version of this is their No. 10, another favorite of mine.)
It may not cause a party in one?s mouth, but it tastes wonderful and the aromatic cloud is quite fetching to others. OE is unflavored, unlike their Gotham Court or Bohemian Mixture (both quite nice as well). Instead, the Virginias and orientals provide plenty of spicy sweet taste on their own. I could see this as an all-day smoke, especially if others are around.
Nicotine is higher than I expected and is the only reason I wouldn?t smoke this all day. Although this mixture hasn?t bitten me, it does pinch a bit. There is no need to puff hard on this to enjoy it.
P&W should consider tinning this as well as many others they offer. This mixture would age wonderfully and tins seem to be favored by this crowd. Alas, OE is bulk only.
I can envision this becoming a regular, but I?m waiting for a slot to open up. Ah, the woes of a smoker with many favorites.

| I have written a fair number of reviews on the Wilke blends,so far all of them have praised the blending prowess of the owners.I, therefore can honestly say ,that Olde English although good is not their prize blend.The aroma is fantastic,not sweet nor overpowering yet the overall taste of the blend is a little disappointing. The mix just never takes off.While you are smoking it you keep asking yourself "do i really like this?". my answer was not really.This is a non -aromatic that is simply non-descript.I would take a pass and go with Gotham Court.
