| I was fortunate enough to have a generous friend save this tobacco for when he might smoke it with me. We popped it open the other night and brought flame to this magic.
To start, it lights well but can be a little hot at first so make a point to puff slowly. It's too rare to be smoked quickly anyway. It's got a great kick to it so maybe save it for after dinner if you can't handle the nicotine. it gets to you and THAT'S a fact. At first the taste comes at you like a freight train but soon it mellows out a bit. Take note that it smells a tad like a cheap cigarette so save it for a company of pipesters.
In short, Dunhill Nightcap ends up with a solid 4 stars in my book. Seriously, if you love a strong english, then this little blue tin is for you. Unfortunatly, its rarity makes it rather costly. Even so, i suggest trying to procure a tin. It's well worth it.

| Dark, earthy, rich and substantial. Full-bodied and robust, it tastes of black coffee and damp earth. Its predominant flavor is of bitterness, but agreeably so. It is very full-flavored and full-bodied. As one might expect, it's a hearty smoke. It is savory, bitter, dark and ever-so-slightly sweet. Very satisfying.
It's a shame this is so hard to come by, because there is nothing else quite like it.

| I was browsing through an old tobacco shop this past weekend checking out their bulk blends and staring me in the face was Dunhill Nightcap. I thought this can’t be but, there on the shelf was a huge old bag with the official Dunhill Nightcap sticker on it. Man this was my lucky day. So I ordered 2oz of Nightcap. The moisture content of my sample was just right and this stuff and some age on it. When I got home I packed up my pipe and lit her up. It took the flame right away and after the charring light it stayed lit to the bottom of the bowl with not a hint of bite to it. To me this seemed like a quintessential old school tobacco in both smell and taste. In the tin the aroma is of lots of smoky latakia of course but, also a nice tangy sweet smell from the Orientals and perique. It translates well into the smoke and on the palette. Very smooth and elegant. I can see why all English blends are compared to this. Goes great while sipping a Grand Mariner on the rocks. Nightcap it tops in my book.

| This of course is the Orlik production of Nightcap, a very nice Latakia Bomb it is too. Smooth, rich and full without being overpowering on the vitamin N side. Could be an all day smoke for a Latakia lover. I may not be stocking up on this, but I will certainly be buying a few more tins to put on the side.

| My first and only Dunhill to date. I was fortunate enough to receive this as a gift from my nephew from France for Christmas last year. Imagine the look on my face upon seeing a tin of this when I opened the box. Being a full bodied cigar smoker, I love a strong English blend. This was perfect!
It is unfortunate that Dunhill no longer produces these and other tobacco products. Due to the law of supply and demand, tobacconist both local and international (not to mention internet) are now demanding a high price, making this unreachable to most pipe smokers with limited resources. It is however my personal opinion and recommendation that if you can afford one, it would be well worth procuring a tin (and smoking it) even for just the experience of it.
Needless to say, this one's for the books as one of the best smokes I'll ever have. I'm just glad that I had the opportunity to have a taste of this wonderful smoke during my lifetime.

| I really don't have much to add on this one, it is indeed a very fine tobacco! I bought my first tin of it about 3 month ago, the first tin of tobacco I ever bought (previously I was only swiping the occasional bowl of the brand my father smokes).
I don't quite understand though, are people here saying that it is not produced anymore? Should I stock up? The tobacconist I went to had quite a number of tins.

| MY experience with Nightcap has been with the Orlik version only. My pipe smoking career came to late to get Morleys. That being said though I will tell you a story...
Image a young pipe smoker with a large collection of aromatics. This was me 5 years ago. One day I walked into my local tobacco shop and a stack of tins caught my eye. As I gazed over the tins I noticed one called Nightcap. I purchased it not being aware that such a thing as English blends existed, thinking that all tobacco was sweet aromatics. As I cracked open the tin I was shocked at first by the aroma that I was not expecting. I thought I had wasted my money. After I packed a bowl full and lit it up I had a moment when time stood still, it was as if the angels were singing and the clouds had parted. I felt like I was tasting tobacco for the first time, the flavors were amazing and Nightcap took over all of my senses. The most amazing thing I experienced was the fact that there were 3 distinct stages through the bowl where the flavors changed and kept me on my toes at every wonderful turn. Now this might make me biased because of my epiphany, but I believe that Nightcap was second only to 965 in the Dunhill lineup. Please if you ever get a chance to grab some of this off a dusty shelf somewhere then do yourself the favor of giving it a shot, it's is one of my fondest pipe smoking memories.

| Dark, rich and strong, without being overpowering. Everything blends well and the Perique is not overdone or overwhelming. Works very well in a meerschaum, or one of my Danish freehands and a cup of good strong coffee.
The only downside is I have to "banish" myself to my study as my wife says is has a potent pungent aroma to it.

| Tin made in UK. Perfect balance between the tobaccos. Smell off the tin is very inviting. I would smoke this everyday. It gave me the munchies ( this usually happens after a good Cuban cigar or a strong pipe tobacco). It delivers what it promises but the smoke while rich is never harsh. I will try to find some more, since Dunhill is bound to disappear. What a shame! This brand sure knew how to blend pipe tobacco.

| Murray-era bulk, aged some four years being reviewed. A little more Perique would make this more interesting. As it is, the modicum of dark Virginia augments the Latakia dominating this mix. Only by the description did I know that Oriental leaf was present beyond Latakia. Latakia tobacco is not considered condimental without good reason and that is how I prefer it. At least Night Cap is cool and burns well. Lots of strength, too, for those avoiding sleep.

| What can be added to what has already been said? I am lucky enough to have about six ounces of this weed left and I still find it to be one of my favorite tin aroma's of all of the Dunhill blends. It smells smokey, sweet and inviting. As English blends go, it's a "hall of famer." If you have never tried it, and you are lucky enough to get your hands on some, its worth the expense! Let's hope that Nightcap and the other Dunhill blends are not gone forever. It would be shameful to let Nightcap become just a memory.

| -This is an epic blend. It is too bad that it is no longer available along with all other Dunhill pipe tobaccos. It is a strong (both Latikia & nicotine) blend. I smoked it for many years and have a few dozen tins cellered. If you like REAL English blends you will not be disapointed; that is if you can find any to smoke.
Please contact British American Tobacco and demand they bring it back or sell the brand to someone who will.

| I post my review to add to the previous 235 or so not to reiterate that which has been posted before but to hopefully add a comparative perspective on Nightcap. I had always wanted to try this Dunhill but delayed until it became impossible to find here. Thanks to a fellow TR member who offered me a tin in trade for another blend, I am able to finally fulfill my wish. I was interested in tasting Nightcap in comparison to Esoterica's 'And So To Bed' (ASTB) as both English blends were described so similarly in measures such as base tobaccos and intended usage. I had wondered if one or the other had been a clone attempt, actually. Yesterday I smoked both blends, three hours apart and in a pipe cleaned before each smoke, to experiment. Indeed, they are similar, very similar, but different. Whereas ASTB is pretty heavy on the nicotine scale, Nightcap is much more powerful. In fact I wondered that Nightcap did not come with a tin warning not to consume this tobacco while operating motor vehicles or other heavy equipment. ASTB relates to Nightcap as a .30-30 would to a .30-06. ASTB has slight floral notes in the tin and smoke, Nightcap has slightly herbal undertones instead. Others here find Latakia in Nightcap. I found none either in the unlit tobacco or in the smoke, but a good dose of Perique (which is fine). ASTB's Latakia is present, but not overstated. There is an slightly biting edge to Nightcaps' spiciness and a creaminess to ASTB's. In general however I personally would have had a perhaps difficult time really telling them apart in a blind test; they taste that similarly. They also acted the same in the bowl with some degree of difficulty in keeping them lighted throughout the burn. That might be explained by my having to draw very slowly due to strength, more so with the Nightcap. A worthwhile experiment this was for me. I liked Nightcap enough not to regret my trade. I probably would favor And So To Bed just over Nightcap but not to a degree earning Nightcap any less than the 3 stars I gave the Esoterica product. Both were very refined offerings with a beautifully consistent ribbon cut. Maybe not a everyday smoke, but one to own nevertheless.

| Old encounter with this tobacco was in early 1990s. Even then, I learned to handle this stuff with care (filling group 3 pipe to only half full or bit more) as nicotine load really kicks harder than infuriated horse.
Very recently I bought one of those new tins of Orlik made stuff. The strong tar aroma greeted from tine while opened it. The cut appeared bit narrower than I remebered. Slightly moist stuff, not as excessively moist as some of Samuel Gawith offerings.
Lights well if had been left to dry in the bowl for a while (30+ minutes) before light the tobacco. Burns well into gray fine ash, but during last 1/3 of the bowl better to slow the pace or might turn to hot end.
Flavor: Taste is not excessively strong, it is tobacco for those who really appreciate strong pipe tobacco, and do not need to worry about surroundings opinions (as much as you might love this tobacco, others around might not feel the same). One of the best of English, and still as Danish (Orlik) made remains as "the King of Nicotine Kick", as after having a full group 3 bowl of this stuff smoked in reasonably fast pace, man can feel of being intoxicated with this stuff for a little while... (but that's why true nicotine addicts love this stuff)
This Dunhill tobacco is still made (beside 965 and EMP), but rumors have been around that some importers in some countries have discontinued to import due exchange rate disadvantage made it too costly for them to compete with locally made tobaccos. But still, Dunhill Nightcap is worth to obtain even across the world and almost regardless of the price.
I bought some more and keep few tins of this stuff in my tobacco stock.
