I got such bad tongue bite from this (and I don't get that from too many tobaccos) that I couldn't go back to it after smoking a couple of bowls. From the description, I hoped it would be like C&D's Canal Boat (Constipated Cockroach!), but nah, wasn't happening. I have a lot left, sitting in the garage, and will smoke some more if I dare, otherwise there it will remain as a special reserve for the end times, or something. The flavor was not at all bad, and as I understand it, tongue bite can be a highly personal reaction sometimes. In retrospect, I should maybe have been wary of a blend described as "mild and mellow..."

I will revise my opinion if I can get up the courage to try another bowl. As I said, the flavor was pretty good, so if it doesn't bite you, go for it!

6-14-11 I jarred this up when I realized any blend with Syrian Latakia is kinda rare these days! I'll give it another try sometime.

I started smoking this in 1968, smoked it for several years, then smoked it on and off ( the off time was on cigarettes), got rid of the cigs about 6 years ago and got back on Mild and Mellow about a year ago. Altho I have a couple Peter stokkeby blends I smoke in the morning and evening, Mild and Mellow is my all day smoke. This tobacco is mild and it is mellow. A great tobacco and my wife loves the room note. Highly recommended.

Update: I have been informed by Smokers Haven owner that this blend is no longer available, the company that blended it for them is no longer in business. He is, however, trying to get another company to blend it, we'll see how that works out. Now I know how people feel when their favorite blends are discontinued, like the Dunhills, ect.

This blend is the most mild smokers haven blend I have tried. It has a lot going for it, and might be the ultimate "bridge" tobacco to an unindoctrinated English smoker. It has a very high quality burly. It provides a modest base and allows for excellent combustibility. Something a newer English smoker will appreciate. The burly is likely air cured and has no evidence of being cased. The kicker in this blend is the dash of Syrian Latakia. It is excellent although sparse. The smokiness is most evident about half way down and never could be confused for being adequate. Think milder than Dunhill Early Morning Pipe for Latakia content. There is also no Oriental tobacco to make things interesting. While the tobacco quality is top notch, this blend is too mild to make my "favorites" list.

This is the third of the six Smoker's Haven bulk American-English blends I have reviewed. Another excellent blend, very mild and smooth. It may be a little light for some, as I found myself puffing faster in order to try and get more taste from this blend. Very similar to their Pure Pleasure, sans the Virginia and toned down a notch. The Syrian Latakia is applied sparingly.

I must say, this is a rather unique burley based custom blend. I can't say I've smoked anything like it before. At first scent from the jar / pouch, this tobacco would seem to be an aromatic. The scent of fresh baked apple pie is about the best way to describe it. Since it is a cube cut burley, I recommend a simple gravity packing with very light tamping in a deep but narrow bowl of a fine briar. Upon lighting, the detected flavoring takes a hike and all that can be tasted is pure natural burley tobacco. If there is any flavoring added, it is merely for pouch aroma and not taste. It is possible the burley is air cured or even fire cured with the detected aromatics and not flavored at all, given it is labeled an English blend by Smoker's Haven. I certainly agree it is a natural English. The latakia is light, yet present enough to separate this mixture from other burley based blends. The first half of the bowl, the Syrian latakia peeks its head out every few puffs. Mid-bowl, the latakia becomes more present, and even dominant toward the end. One to two relights are usually typical. Be careful not to tamp too tightly before relighting, as with any cube cut burley, this will leave tasty unburnt tobacco compressed and wasted away at the bottom of the bowl. This is a nice dry smoke and a pleasure for the burley lover, or any natural tobacco lover. I enjoy it, and I'm partial to classic Balkan style blends.
