|Great stuff. I'll go to four stars because of the value. Nice shag cut, and this makes it useful as a blender for RYO. A fine, simple pipe tobacco in its own right.
...which is really growing on me. There is little "Lakeland" topping in here, if any. Love the cut. It's like G&H KK or Dark Birdseye, with all the harshness and strength removed. As good as FVF? Probably not. Different too, as Samuel Gawith goes. Old fashioned, heavily cured but still natural tobacco taste, great burn, pleasant to sip, and just mild enough without being boring. 3/6/11
4/16/11 By now, I have realized that this is right up there with the finest SG and GH tobacco blends I've tried. It is on my list for another pound, if we ever see it here again.
1/6/13 Too bad this is so hard to find these days. I have maybe a little less than six ounces left, and reserve it for an occasional smoke, because I don't know where to find it now, and it would probably cost more than double what I paid in 2010! It's not that there aren't plenty of tobaccos I like just as much, but rather the seeming rarity of the stuff. I also want to conserve what I have left in the mason jar for long enough to see what a couple more years of aging does to it. I've actually got the jar in a less obvious and near-at-hand place to keep me from reaching for it as often, but I think the mere act of adding to my review has made me crave a pipeful for my next bowl. Hard to believe there are only three reviews here for this overlooked gem (there's got to be some somewhere), and if I had bought two pounds instead of one back when SG was so cheap, I'd probably send samples out to online friends just to get some more opinions on here!
