British PMs notwithstanding, this is more of an American blend than English. The predominant flavor is that of burley with just a whiff of latakia. An interesting change of pace and certainly a bit different than the usual blend catergories.

For me, this is a typical English blend. Somewhat similar to other English blends I have smoked, notably Dunhill's London Mixture and Peretti's British Blend although milder and tangier than both of those. I placed it in the "very mild" category, milder than other reviewers and I attribute that to the fact that I am used to the stronger VA/P flakes. Nevertheless it is very tasty and the thing that jumps out of it for me is the tanginess. Not overpowering but rather pleasant. The tanginess is most noticeable at the beginning of the bowl and diminishes as it is smoked. Mid bowl I find a certain richness and "woodsy" taste dominates and this remains consistent to the end.

Overall, very pleasant, good change of pace for me but as another reviewer noted, if one is looking for a more full bodied English blend then this one is probably not for them.

Touching match to leaf, the first impression is of a mild VA tang and a bit of burley nuttiness. After a second light, the latakia looms in the background, with its' creamy notes. Mid-bowl, the same tastes are apparent and I find this to be a very good mild English. As the bowl winds down, the VAs take over until the smoke ends with a fine gray ash.

D-7485 requires minimal relights, as is the case with most Peretti blends. I find them to be very good in the lighting and burn departments. It burns cool in the bowl, and does not exhibit a tendency to bite.

Scores for D-7485: taste-17 out of 20; lighting and burn- 9 of 10; value- 8 of 10. 34 points equals another **** winner for Robert Peretti.

I am not so sure this has any Burley in it, but I am sure there is a good dose of Turkish. The combination of Turkish with Virginia gives it a delightful lemony freshness. The Latakia provides just a hint of smokey spice.

It deserves a place with other classic mild English mixtures, such as Dunhill's Standard Mixture Mild, Rattray's 7 Reserve, and Professional Mixture, and Wilke's No. 10.

This is an English for all day consumption. It is biteless, refreshing, with a pleasant aftertaste and a mild room note.

If you are in the mood for a full, leathery English, this won't do the trick, but on its own terms, it is exquisite.

This tobacco does indeed have a distinguished pedigree; the Hon. Ramsay MacDonald was Prime Minister of England, the first Labour Party (ala Tony Blair) Prime Minister in England's history. He was first elected in 1924 and served until 1931. He reached across party lines to the Conservatives and Liberals to form a coalition to combat the Great Depression. For his efforts, he was expelled from the Labour Party. No good deed ever goes unpunished.

At a time when the great British tobacco houses were at full throtle, MacDonald must have found something decidedly UN-English and good in D-4785. It is not difficult to find even now. This tobacco is an unadulterated throwback to the best days of American blends.

The base is a mixture of Burley cube and Bright Virginia. There is a faint note of aromatic, something derivative of Peretti's BPC or Blend 33, and perhaps a bit of deer tongue in the pouch aroma. The taste is like nothing else, but most like Revelation in its original form, not the current iteration from HOW; this is much lighter in Latakia. This is much smoother and spicier; a unique and refined smoke.

Just as Ramsay MacDonald formed a coalition of disperate political factions, so will his tobacco win fans from all but the most extreme Latakisphiles and aromatic smokers.
