This is my second Cavendish (first being C&D Autumn Evening) and it's from a tobacco company close to where my parents live (edit: it's sold by a local store, but the local brand they sell doesn't make this one, clearly). I find it to be very enjoyable and plan on buying a more to store for the long term! In the bag there was a strong chocolate scent to it without smelling overly sweet. The smoke itself is quite sweet without being too much and leaves a wonderful note. When I want something "artificially" sweetened, this is a great choice!

I purchased this Lane Limited black cavendish blend under the Smoker's Pride label. I am a fan of aromatics, and am always in search of that "perfect" blend.

Keeping in mind that no two palettes are alike, here are my thoughts on this blend:

By nature, I draw frequently and heavily from the bowl and have yet to experience any tongue bite. I have smoked this tobacco in my Dr. Grabow Duke and in my Peterson Shannon B11. No relights were required.

The tobacco burned into a clean, grayish-white ash to the bottom of the bowl and left no goopy mess. My palate received a rich, full-bodied tobacco taste, underscored by a peppery flavor.

The room note was pleasant, as stated directly by an impartial bystander. My only complaint, if any: The lingering tobacco flavor was a tad heady for my palette. This does not a bad tobacco make, rather it's a palette preference. Those who enjoy a moderately full tobacco flavor should enjoy this, especially the aromatic smoker on a budget.

Well, it looks like this blend is getting a bit bashed and banged up by our members. I guess I'm gonna have to give this one a sorta thumbs up opinion. I've never smoked an aromatic as strong as this stuff is. A cross between vanilla and berries, was what I detected. I smoked this in my favorite Grabow. Bad mistake, as it leaves a very discernable after taste. In the Grabow, I smoke tons of the Prince, but this stuffs' flavors start coming through near the bottom of the bowl of the Prince. I didn't do any kind of cleaning between blends, so I'm hoping I didn't ruin my Grabow. In a cob, this stuff would probably be a nice change of pace, from the standard otc blends. Went great with some Canadian Club. I wouldn't recommend this as a go-to blend, but for a really noticeable flavor change, try it out. You might be surprised...

This tobacco isn't outstanding, but it's certainly not bad by any means. While what many of the other reviewers have been saying, it is rather bubbly, it's still a very enjoyable smoke out of a cheaper pipe or meershaum. Pick some of this up if you can find it.

An average everyday at work smoke, nothing to cheer over. It's not the worse I ever had. It's just something to smoke just to say your smoking. Mild and not very exciting. But I would take it fishing or something like that.

Cavendish bite. Nice room note (toasted marshmallow?). A bit too bitey. Sticky small cut. B.

Great blender, however I sometimes smoke it by its self. Wet will clog up a good pipe however.

I've smoked about an ounce of this now and I did like it. It is sweet but otherwise plain. I couldn't detect the vanilla that other people did. This would be better if it were a little sweeter and slightly stronger. Still, not bad and I might pick some more up sometime. It did tend to gunk the pipe a bit so I simply went out and bought some cheap corncob pipes to smoke this type of stuff in.

This is currently my everyday blend. Prior to this, I smoked Captain Black(White)for five years. This is the same blend WITHOUT the Burley. I find that this aromatic blend is very relaxing and deeply satisfying. Most importantly, my wife doesn't complain as musch as she did when I smoked an English blend (I only smoke outdoors on our terrace). While some of the reviewers here can't taste Vanilla in this blend, I do but it's a very faint taste (don't expect Baskin-Robbins here). The tobacco has not gunked up my pipes (although I am fastideous about cleaning them the next day). Make sure you rotate your pipes. I have three pipes dedicated for each blend I enjoy. As I stated earlier, this is currently my mainstay.

Alas this sticky black cavendish brings back many memories of my youth and college years.

I worked for a few years as a sales associate and novice tobacconist for a very popular mall tobacco retailer/gift shop. This tobacco was sold under the name Nightlighter. It was a very popular smoke for new pipe smokers. As the new smokers experience and taste grew the desire for this moist and extremely vanilla flavored confection lessened if not ceased altogether. I have seen this cavendish cake up and ruin many a fine pipe in relatively short order due to its high sugary topping to tobacco ratio. It usually could never be smoked to the bottom of the bowl because it was far too wet to maintain any space for oxygen let alone an ember. This usually resulted in a very top heavy cake in a pipe. This tobacco also leaves a ghost that never goes away even with a straight burly smoke or twenty.

Taking it for what its worth this tobacco is really only good for blending with fruit flavored cavendishes or a good dry burly. My recommendation is no more than an eighth ounce or less to an ounce of the dominating blend.

I can't say it is truly a horrible tobacco but I can say don't ever smoke this tobacco by itself unless you plan to dedicate a pipe to it.

Bottom line: too wet, too common vanilla, no tobacco taste, will ruin a quality pipe with the permanent taste of vanilla, and a multiple relighter. There are better black cavendish blends out there if you are seeking. LL BCA would be a recommendation, amongst others.

I bought 1 oz of the stuff to sample. The texture is rediculously wet and sticky. There's probably more sugar and glycerine in this tobacco, than tobacco itself. I tried this blend out about a year ago, and remember the smoking experience vividly. (You always seem to remember the one's you love, and the ones you despise.)

I must say that I really don't care for tobacco's of this nature. Black Cav. reeks of sugar and vanilla, burns hot and wet, and will taint your pipe for months after smoking. If you're test driving this blend, do so in a corn cobb. Don't subject a fine briar piece to this stuff.

Smoking: This tobacco required several relights to accomplish smoking a reasonable size bowl.

Taste: Sweet and greasy, UMMM! glycerine anyone? The aftertaste could be compared to eating an entire tube of vanilla lip balm.

Final Analysis: Discusting, won't by it agian or anything like it in the future.

It's been almost a year since I purchased a sample-size portion from a local shop, but nobody else seems to have reviewed it so i figured I'd give it a shot. There is probably a larger percentage of this stuff's mass in casing than there is in tobacco. Smoking it is like smoking a wet, pasty, vanilla-flavored mush. Come to think of it, thats about what it is. I imagine that smoking shredded plastic might be about the same. I don't think I'll be purchasing any more any time soon.
