| Acadian Coast came to me via a tobacco box pass.
This is unique among the VA/P mixtures I've tasted. It has some of the stoved taste of Blackwood Flakes, yet carries the tangy zip of the more "American" blends of VA/P. The combo in this blend provides a prevalent fruity sourness. It is not unpleasant - similar to unsweetened fruit preserve.
Fairly even in taste all the way down the bowl, there was a definite tension between the dark sweetness of the VA and the perique's sharpness. The stoving lends a great support of smoothness. It is not as dark as McClelland's VA leaves, neither is it as fruity as Esoterica's VA/P blends. Not quite as "direct" as C+D's fantastic Bayou Morning. But somehow seems to fall in the middle of all these with unique taste. I at points think I detect a slight flavoring, but can not be sure. If present, it does not inhibit the tobacco taste at all.
The flavor is full and rich. A bit heavy handed in the use of Perique - especially as it kicks up towards the end of the bowl. This suits me fine, but if you don't like this style of tobacco, it may not appeal to you.
I will definitely sample more, and perhaps order a batch in the near future. Even if I do not choose to reorder, I feel this tobacco gets 3 stars for another unique take on the VA/P combo.
