841: Sha'are Orah (Gates of Light)

Brand: Cornell & Diehl
Blender: Rabbi Ira Stone and William Serad
Tin Description: Named for a book of Jewish mysticism, this is a substantial blend with a special cubed burley base. It derives its subtle essence from the delicate interplay of Turkish leaf and Perique, further mellowed by stoved red Virginias. We are admonished to act with great care in this world, as we are not the final arbiters of actions we judge insignificant. Similarly, a microcosm of leaf adroitly balanced results in intricate and surprising flavors.

Tastes of full tobacco, nice mixture with quality leaf that builds well through the bowl. Has plenty of body from the burley, with the stewed perique flavour coming in after a dozen puffs or so. I didn't like this when I first got it a year ago, but I was comparing it with Haunted Bookshop and Morley's Best, which are each less subtle than this blend. It has been over a year in a mason jar I am now quite happy with it. The room note is too strong to smoke around others IMHO. Works well in small bowls.

It's holy smoke!

By golly, this is one of the nicest cubed cut burley based blends I have ever smoked. Cool, dry, tasty, plus of substance! No flavors added, just tobacco and some meat.

It has some complexity due to the other ingredients, but the perique stands out on this mild base. Not as much perique as say Kajun Kake, but enough to give you lively flavor throughout (if you like burley and care for some perique). C&D's cubed burley is the best.

The perique with virginia pushes it just north of medium IMO.

I like it. Met Craig at RTDA '06 and told him so. He smiled. Everyone needs to met this Rabbi blender. Smoked two ounce sample based on recommendation of Ed from Paylesspipes and ordered some tins. Comes in 8 oz. and 16 oz. tins, or pressed if you like from C&D. Needs no additional aging to taste satisfying.

Just a basic, good old blend but in this case it's "holy smoke".

I ordered this for the most part because of the cubed burley mentioned in the description. I was not dissapointed. this has huge pieces of cubed burley that pack and burn well. It reminds me as a whole very much of barbary coast. It is blended with top quality tobacco and if you like burley and perique this will not let you down.
