A pleasant smoke. The latakia certainly builds as the bowl progresses. Flavor starts sweet/smooth and gets spicy down the bowl.

The blend base is virginia with no burly. It is sweet, mellow and tasty, with a strong dose of latakia, much more latakia than other Altadis English blends.

If you do not like this you can find an Altadis English (or balkan) blend that is just right for you since they have so many available, all in the mild/medium to medium range. I prefer less latakia, but smoke this when I want a smooth English with no bite and the latakia craving hits

My favorite so far is Altadis English Oriental, which includes the Smyrna for sweetness and a gentle touch of St James parish perique, much less latakia and burly for added strength.

But try a few and see if you find one that stands out for you.

Well yes okay, I am being a bit mean. The price is right after all and it id not a bad smoke. But! What I found was that my sample ws a bit hay and straw flavoured. So I mixed 50g of Cyprus Latakia and 25g of Revor plug,(sliced and rubbed out), then stuck it in a tin for a month. the exta latakia gave it more top note, the Revor gave more depth and the month in the tin matured it up a lot. It is now a very pleasant self blend indeed. Many will like this as is, so don't be put off. If you have the same feelings as me, try my cure. Not bad at all really. Any way, there is one thing worse, no baccy for your pipe, ouch.

This is a little subdued in character but hits the medium-full English spot right on the nail-head in all other respects. Lots of Latakia and strength but not OTT. This has very good balance of the various elements. I can't imagine any English smoker not liking this, really. An underrated and overlooked bulk English which you could substitute for a more expensive tinned blend and not feel terribly deprived.

Latakia as strong as Old Ironsides. Good quality tobacco with no moisture problems in my sample. Smokes well with little fuss. Too much Latakia for me. No bad or sour tastes in evidence. A very reasonably priced tobacco. If you love Latakia and can't afford the high end tobacs, give this one a try.

I picked up a 2 oz. pouch of this a couple of months ago. It is not sealed so is best kept in a humidor. Conversly, there are moisture problems with this blend if it is not aired for a day or so.

That said, the pouch aroma is predominatly latakia with the virginias in the background. The room note is sweeter than a lot of english blends I have tried, but the sweetness is not proportional in the flavor.

The virginias and orientals vie for which will follow the latakia. The orientals give a bit more spiciness than I am used too, and I assume they are responsible for the (sp)citriusy sourness in the finish.

Lights well, stays lit, burns slowly... Taste changes as you smoke, from smooth/sweet, to sour/spicy.

A fairly good blend, 7 out of 10
