Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. Dark Plug Aromatic

(3.00)
Equal proportions of Dark Fired Malawi and Indian dark air cured leaves have been cooked under pressure before undergoing a long curing process and being top dressed with a spicy aromatic flavour. The result is a strong full bodied smoke, which boasts plenty of character. The sweet yet earthy flavour from the Indian leaf contrasting with the smokey peaty flavours of the Dark Fired leaf is one to be experienced. We would however only recommend this for the experienced or adventurous smoker. This is the same tobacco as the unscented Dark Plug with an aromatic top dressing for those lovers of aromatics.

The Virginia is very earthy and fairly floral, with light citrus, grass and spice notes, and deep, fermented dark fruit. The burley is boldly earthy, woody and nutty with a touch of molasses. The tonquin is a little more obvious than the maple and licorice toppings. They tone down the tobaccos mildly. The strength and nic-hit are strong. The taste level is just past the center of medium to strong. Won’t bite, but it does have a few rough edges. Needs some dry time. Burns cool and clean and slow with a mostly consistent sweet and rugged, mildly savory flavor from top to bottom. Leaves little moisture in the bowl, and requires a fair number of relights. Has a pleasantly lingering after taste. Not an all day smoke, and I recommend a small bowl for this one.

Sample 3/12 from a piping-friend of the UK. It was hard to find a description for this one...the one written here before was obviously wrong, as it stated "no flavorings added"...which is contrary with the Plugs name and scent.

The mostly black plug, with a tiny "bird-eye" of bright tobaoo in the center region smells of....mhm...of what? It's hard to describe, and the best definition of the flavoring I found online is "Turkish Delight" ...this is very close! It could well be the listed "licorice, maple & Tonquin bean" that creates this delightful scent. I can't get enough of this scent, its excellent!

Its pretty moist, and needs some drying time, but drying it out will take some of the flavoring. Choose wisely how long you'll dry this out to hit that "sweet-spot" of dryness without loosing too much flavoring.

Needs several relights to get it going, but then its one of the best aromatics I've had so far. The scent transposes well into the smoke. First light hit me with intense, sweet, slightly fruity and creamy "Turkish Delight" aroma. The flavoring dominates and is supported by the base tobaccos spending very much earth, some smoke and wood. I also get a minor floralness and the smoke leaves me with a oily mouthfeel.

Its not only one of the best aromatics, but also the most strongest aromatic I ever had. This stuff wakes you up in the morning! A beautiful plug with genuine aroma due to the flavoring. Only downside...its a hassle to get it going and to keep it lit...I mean...really a hassle! This needs AT LEAST 1 hour of drying, better 2-3 or even more to burn well! On the other hand the delicate flavoring will fade to some degree then...its like performing a magic trick to hit that "sweet-spot". But its worth it for a one of a kind aromatic! 3,5 stars!

Gawith Hoggarth - Dark Plug Aromatic.

This is fabulously easy to prepare, although on the negative side it's slightly damp preparation is simple. It breaks with ease into thick flake like pieces which if allowed to dry can be rubbed out to a good consistency to burn. The smoke has a good depth of flavour. There is a great prominent Virginia hay taste with an interesting piquancy on top. It comes across as slightly smoky and delicately floral. I get a large amount of nicotine from this, a lot heavier than I had expected. The consistency of the burn is brilliant, it's even and steady throughout. There's no tongue bite for me and the smoke cool in temperature.

Although I thought this wouldn't suit me I enjoy it quite a lot, recommended.
