The Virginias are just a little noticeable, sweet and grassy. The black cavendish has the vanilla you expect it have, and it plays well with the creamy rich chocolate topping. Has almost no nicotine. Burns clean and cool at a moderate pace with a consistent flavor that never weakens. Needs few relights, and leaves very little moisture in the bowl. No bite or harshness, and the after taste is as pleasant as the smoking experience and room notes. An easy going all day smoke.

A very light flavor of chocolate but a nice Virgina taste when smoking. In the bag it smells a bit like Cocoa and my bag arrived as a 1lb. with perfect moisture levels. I smoked this fresh out of the bag and it was light weight and pleasant. I enjoyed the refreshing change from smoking English blends and heavier tobaccos that I also enjoy often. I smoke about 10-20 pipe bowls a day on average. This was an all day smoke and one that I would compare to Lane's 1Q for it's no bite, low taste but pleasant profile but the not the same in flavor. The chocolate is really noticed more as aroma than anything. Compared to Sutliff and the heavier flavor they impart to their aromatics (if you know them) is tasted as well as very aromatic. This is not that kind of aromatic. It is a dry smoke (no moisture in the pipe) and very light so that you have more of that true tobacco taste. I could see myself enjoying this in public without fear of offending others olfactory senses while still feeling that I am smoking a quality tobacco that is not candy. This is a unique aromatic and has me curious to try other offerings by McClelland in their bulk aromatics line.

I am a big fan of McClelland's Mocha Black, so I bought a half pound of Chocolate Cream when I discovered it also has a nice helping of Virginia in addition to the flavored Cavendish. A terrific smoke! I got some strength and light sweetness that one gets with discreetly cased blends. And yes, I did taste the Chocolate and it was delicious! Burned very cool for an aromatic and of note, it smoked mostly dry. The next time I get a sweet tooth, Chocolate Cream will be in my pipe.

McClelland - No. 402 Chocolate Cream.
The blend includes a larger amount of Virginia, compared to Black Cavendish. It's badged Shag for the cut, but it's not so straightforward: the Virginia's cut as a shag, yet the Cavendish is in larger ribbons. As it arrived with a little air in the pouch the moisture's just right.
The smoke's not what I expected. It isn't sticky, heavy, or sickly sweet, and nor is there any bitterness that can come when there's a lot of rich dark chocolate in a blend. The chocolate gives a smooth top-note to some fine tobacco flavours. Of which, the Virginia outweighs the Cav, so the topping isn't sticky and nor are the tobacco flavours! The burn from it's well behaved, cool, giving a smoke with zero tongue bite.
Nicotine: mild. Room-note: there's nothing not to love!
A belting blend. Four stars:
Highly recommended.

I'm not much on aromatics, which for me means the kind flavored with mango or cinnamon or whatever, but I recently tried a Lane chocolate blend that was very nice and still tasted like I'm smoking pipe tobacco. Not sure what it was, maybe 59-C. Anyway, it whetted my appetite to try another choco blend, which is how I wound up choosing #402 from my friend's tobacco stash.
Very, very good is all I can say. Excellent tobacco taste (could've been stronger for my taste) from the Virginia. The chocolate is in the tin note and room note, but I didn't notice it all that much in the taste, just slightly, just right. Don't know why chocolate aromatics don't have more balls (tobacco taste), but this one has enough. I am buying some in bulk and will try mixing it with some high-quality VA to increase the vitamin N.
No bite, smoked great to the end. I use the corkscrew packing method (pour baccy into hand, let the pipe gobble it up and it corkscrews into the pipe), which works wonderfully with shag. Highly recommended.

I bought 4 oz of this to try my hand at blending a chocolate Latakia blend. A basic chocolate aromatic comprised of fairly high quality leaf. Packs and lights well, doesn't burn too wet. Mixing it with a bit of McClelland bulk Latakia produced a terrific smoke. Smoking this on its own was uneventful, but left a quite pleasing room note. I think this one is on par with Super Value Chocolate.

This is good light aromatic blend that burns very clean with no tongue bite even though it burns a little on the hot side (would suggest a thick walled pipe and maybe even a good churchwarden). The chocalate is there but descreet, the overall smoke is pleasent but not overpowering. As for aroma, it got wife's stamp of approval, when a blend gets thumbs up from her it has a very pleasant room note.
Added note, set the pipe down for a rest after charring light and then go back to for a little extra.

By far the best aromatic I have had yet. Smells great and has a slight chocolate taste along with a great Virginia taste. Burns good and no bite. Worth every penny.
