Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. Dark Honeydew

(3.50)
This sweet rich mixture combines the natural sweetness of sun cured tobaccos with fully ripe Virginias and burleys. The casing and top flavours include maple and honeydew, all of which contribute towards providing a notably satisfying smoke.

Gawith Hoggarth Dark Honeydew.

The unlit mix is very uniform in the sizes of pieces, all about 3 quarters of a centimetre in length and predominantly a medium brown colour. It gives off quite an incongruous aroma pre-light, it has an almost musty note to it! It lights up with brilliance and burns very evenly leaving a totally grey ash. The flavour of the smoke I find to be fairly unique, you get a good balance of Virginia to Burley with a sweetness emanating from the toppings but also (as with the unlit aroma) there's a touch of a certain mustiness there , not too heavy as to take over and ruin the blend but just enough to add a great embellishment to it. Vitamin N is spot on, it doesn't blow your mind into spinning around or disappoint with the lack of it. The room note is incredible with Honeydew, it gives off antiquity and you could imagine this being the eminent smell of Sherlock Holmes's study! Even though this is an aromatic in name it creates no cake or gurgle in the bowl as some aro's can.

If you favour something a little different from the crowd with a superb room note then this is a blend for you!

I feel the best way to describe this tobacco is to compare it to G&H's staple Ennerdale Flake. I find this one to have a similar tone as Ennerdale Flake, but with more of a sweet honey note. The moisture level is perfect, as with every other G&H product I have tried. I would say it has a bit less strength than Ennerdale, but it could just be the fact it's loose rather than flake. Gives off a good amount of Nicotine. It gives a sweet, creamy, honey texture on the palate and in the nostrils gives you a good hit of the Lakeland Essence. I get much more of a "honey" note than "honeydew". I think this one has a bit more Lakeland essence than Ennerdale, and the room note is more pleasant though not in the last part of the bowl. A fairly strong tobacco that doesn't offend too badly, tastes great, and the wife at least won't kill me if I smoke it around her.
