The same unusual blending of eight quality tobaccos as in our blend number 101, except that a non-aromatic Irish tobacco is used. An excellent, non-aromatic mixture.

Appearance: Definitely an American cut, a mixture of cubes and granulated pieces (sometimes called flakes by American blenders). The color is mostly ?burley brown? with some variation.

Aroma: Burley smell with some sweetness evident, and a very noticeable presence of what I think is Deer Tongue.

Packing: This blend does not like to be tamped, except at the top and that only slightly. Just scoop it in and smooth out the top.

Lighting: : Lights easily, but not too quickly. The usual two matches will get it going nicely

Initial flavor: Good nutty burley taste with a bit of sweetness, and the herbiness of the Deer Tongue. This always reminds me of Tarragon. Nice mouth feel.

Mid-bowl: Not very complex, but tasty and satisfying. Burns slow and cool and is great for being outdoors. Moderate nicotine level felt by me, YMMV.

Finish: Just a tad stronger at the end, but clean. Does leave a residual aroma in the pipe, but its not too persistent.

Summary: An excellent outdoor blend, particularly in warm weather. Maybe better in a cob than in a briar, if you?re worried about the lingering aroma.

Peretti calls this an "American blend" because it has a "granular burley base." This blend was so mellow it seemed I was more going through the motions of pipe smoking rather than enjoying the taste of the tobacco. Without a doubt it has a nice tabacky taste but it was so light I won't try it again. I am a rookie pipe smoker so please take this review with a grain of perique. I started pipe smoking in December of '08 after a decade of enjoying cigars and it seems I enjoy full-flavored English blends most. The finer taste-points of this blend are apparently too subtle for my rookie palate.
