appearance: reddish brown ribbon cut with some stems.
tin note: honey and bright straw with a hint of dried plums (I refuse to use the other word for dried plums). A note of dry oak leafs hung over the top.
smoke: lots of honey came through, along with a slight butteryness. The backbone of this smoke was the Virginia, which provided robust grassyness. Toasted almonds and salty toffee come to mind as I smoked it. This morphed into a hardwood campfire aroma, surprising, but not unpleasant. Maintained its bright sweetness throughout...no vinegar or sourness at all. It got spicy towards the end of the bowl. No "dill pickle" taste, which I sometimes detect in predominantly Virginia blends. There was a nicotine "push" there, but it was mild to me (mild to me may == room spins to others). It smoked hot and I had to slow my cadence down to keep the temp down. Despite the heat, very little bite.
finish: dry with little dottle (always the case with my cob pipe, briar results may differ).
room note: smoky, pleasant, and slightly cigarish.
Pipe Used: MM Diplomat
Age When Smoked: Fresh baggy just bought.
Purchased From: The Owl Shop at the counter.
