Billow The Billow Bulkan
(3.00)
This is the Billow way of making a Balkan mixture. We use premium Red Virginia with fragrant Turkish leaf and fine Cyprian Latakia. To make it different than any other Balkan mixture out there, we use a slight sprinkle of our very special Bourbon Black Cavendish to pair barrel tones to the smokiness to the Latakia. A unique experience in which you must indulge.
Notes: Introduced at the Chicagoland Pipe Show in May 2014

I really don't like to be the first to review a blend, as I respect the opinions of other smokers and kind of like to sense how the general sentiment is going. However, that's not the case here, so, here goes. I have been smoking more Balkan English blends of late and here is how I see Billow Balkan fitting in. If I were to review this blend as an English I would rate it as medium strength; but, if reviewed as a Balkan I would rate it as light. Now, light is not a word you hear very much when smokers discuss Balkan blends. So, is this bad? No. I enjoyed smoking this mixture and thought to myself - why not? It looks like an English mixture, smokes like an English mixture and satisfies like an English mixture should. True, compared to heavyweights like Balkan Sobranie 759, Smoker's Haven Exotique (older version) or even Brebbia Balkan; it comes up short. But, who cares. It smoked like a virginia/latakia/perique mixture should and the added black cavendish softened the smoke to a satisfying level. I enjoyed it and enjoyed using it in microblending - a very solid three stars.
