McClelland - No. M-93 Topper.
I've just returned from a week's holiday and this was one of the blends which accompanied me.
The mix includes quite a few coarse ribbons and has a pleasant butterscotch aroma. The loose pouch had enabled the moisture to become just right; I'd had it in my cellar for a good few months.
Quite an amenable smoke. There's more Virginia than black Cav' so although the flavour's sweet, because of the butterscotch, it isn't a 'heavy' smoke. The butterscotch has a creamy, caramel esc flavour, and I find it a little more than mild in weight. The burn's mid-temperature but can be a bit too fast.
Nicotine: mild. Room-note: nice.
M-93 Topper? Not bad, but not great. Two stars:
Somewhat recommended.

I just don't understand why you would develop a blend call it a nice delicious name and then it have little or no taste related to the name. This has little to no taste or flavor and the room note is pretty weak as well. Just a less than average aromatic.

I am newer to pipe smoking but really enjoyed this tobacco, had a nice sweet taste, just not necessarily caramel. Smells amazing and room note is amazing too!

I ordered 2oz of this to try based on all the positive reviews. Disappointed. I don't think this tobacco lives up to the quality and reputation of many of McClelland's other fine tobaccos.
This Topper blend doesn't have much discernible butterscotch flavoring, it burns hot, and the underlying tobacco tastes and flavors seem to be flat and uninteresting. Gave a small amount of tongue bite due to burning hot, which is unusual for McClelland tobaccos.
Very mild (in fact way too mild for my tastes), not much aromatic flavoring, and bland tobacco make this one a miss in my book.

Smoke this in a cob and more of the flavor comes through. I tried this in several briars and was ready to give up until I took one last smoke in a MM Country Gent.

Smells great. Otherwise, I'd give it a "blah plus." This sets it a notch above most of McClelland's other bulk aromatics. It is sticky stuff, but the butterscotch casing is irresistable. Practically no flavor, but you can actually smell the room note while smoking, a rare thing, and enough comes through to the smoke to make you smile a bit. Mixed 50/50 with McClelland 2010, it is quite pleasant.
