The Tobacco Barn Danish Virginia
(2.00)
This blend is a mixture of red and bright Virginia in what is referred to as a"shag cut." We call it Danish Virginia because by and large the majority of commercial Virginia blends from Denmark are mild, smooth Virginia blends. The addition of condiment tobaccos, such as latakia and perique, give a Virginia a stronger, bolder taste that is still very mild; a nice starter tobacco for those who would like to try a quality Virginia.

Danish Virginia is one of Tobacco Barn's bulk blends. I'd be interested to know who actually manufactures it.
This tobacco is a light brown broken flake with some flecks of blonde throughout. Frequently I rub out a tobacco of this consistency, but my sample is pretty dry so I only break it up slightly.
Lights easily and burns cleanly. Starts out extremely mild, so much so that at first I thought I wouldn't enjoy it much. Slowly the flavor starts to build as you smoke down through the bowl.
Because of the lighter color and initial mild flavor, I expected this to be a grassy Virginia. But actually I would describe the flavor as more cereal-like. Reminds me of dry toast or an unsweetened biscuit of Nabisco Shredded Wheat. It's very pleasant, I only wish there was more of it and that it came on stronger. Just when it starts to get really good, the bowl is gone, leaving me feeling somewhat unsatisfied.
This tobacco doesn't bite my tongue but it does dry my mouth out something fierce. I find it absolutely necessary to have something to drink with it. Black tea works for me.
It's quality tobacco and a pleasant smoke, but I like my Virginias a little richer, sweeter, stoved a bit, more toward Samuel Gawith Best Brown Flake or Full Virginia Flake. For that reason, I'm rating it a 2, Somewhat Recommended. However, if you like your Virginias on the lighter and milder side then I don't hesitate to recommend Tobacco Barn's Danish Virginia to you.
