Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. Sweet Pigtail

(4.00)
Manufactured by spinning tobacco dark fired leaves into a rope. The Pig Tail is more widely used as a chewing tobacco although can still be smoked if preferred. The pouch aroma is both oily and spicy. Due to the tiny diameter of the twist, usually cut into so many little discs in order to chew or smoke. Once you cut them you see a very deep reddish brown colour, especially under direct light. It is truly a strong tobacco. The taste settles down gradually and becomes increasingly sweet, spicy, and creamy.

The rope is moist and pliable and easily cut into coins, bits and/or shreds if you prefer. The dark fired and air cured tobaccos are boldly earthy, with a deep dark fruitiness, some citrus, and a minor grass, spice and acidic note. I suspicion that a touch of sugar was added. The strength level is strong (terrible phrasing here), while the taste is full. The nic-hit is medium to full. Won’t bite, but it does have a rough note at times. Needs some dry time. Burns cool, clean and slow no matter how you prepare it, unless you mince it. The strong flavors are consistent all the way to the finish. Leaves some moisture in the bowl, and requires some relights. The strong after taste is pleasant, and lingers. The room note is stronger. Not an all day smoke, and I recommend a small bowl.

This comes in a small foil bag, and is easy to cut off a piece of the narrow rope and unravel into bits of leaf that pack easily. There is just a hint of sweetness, especially in the aftertaste. It takes a light well (at least when separated into leaves) and doesn't burn as slowly as most ropes.
