A clone of MacBaren's Scottish Mixture. Like all clones, not quite the same but really, really, close in this case. Looks, cut, dryness and bag note all the same. Smokes the same. The only difference I could detect was the flavoring was just slightly different, sweeter but less full? It is a good enough knock off to pick up a bag if you want to save a few dollars or cannot get MacBaren's right away. Frankly, I will stick with Scottish Mixture, but will certainly finish my bag of this happily.

Surprisingly, the Black Cavendish (unflavored) in this inexpensive blend, did not add much body to a very light and airy English. The Burley addition was flat as a pancake. The Latakia and Virginia lacked depth and after just 3 bowls over a two day period, I gave up on this one and off to my pipe club's tobacco bar it went. I don't recall getting any "thank you's."

I purchased this from Cup O' Joes as a bulk 2 ounce bag. When received it was the perfect humidity level to smoke right out of the bag. I was greeted with the same familiar smell as alot of other scottish blends. It packed nicely and after an initial burn and tamp I was well on my way. I smoked this in a Peterson Killarney 150 that I have dedicated for scottish blends. Everything about this screamed Mac Barens mixture scottish blend except the price. The difference came half way through the bowl when the flavors seperated out. I did a slow race to the bottom trying to pick out every difference. Something I never could with the higher priced Mac B's. Towards the very bottom I could gather a faint butter scotch flavor. That stayed with me for hours later. All around I'm very pleased with this bulk. Everything about it is worth the money spent. So pleasant when a cheap bulk really comes through. I'll be ordering a pound or so and putting it up in the cellar. Can't wait to let some time get behind this and do the magic.
