Gauntleys Of Nottingham Private Blend No12
(4.00)
The Gauntleys Private Blends are custom tobaccos created in the Nottingham shop for specific customers. A selection of these will be released for general sale.
Notes: Private Blend No12 is one of three tobaccos we started making for Clive back in the summer of 2010. This blend known in the shop as "Dirty Mac" is built up from a mixture of aromatics with a Balkan style blend with a little extra Kentucky for a slight kick.
First created Summer 2010

Gauntleys - Private Blend No.12.
This, to me, looks more like a mixture/ready rubbed blend than a broken flake. There are a few chunky pieces of flake in there but not as many as a lot of blends badged as Broken Flake can have in them. That said, no extra rubbing is needed as they're not big enough to require it and there's not really that many of them. As I've had this in my cellar for a few months I'm unsure if either A: the loose pouch has let it breathe, or B: it was of a great water amount to begin wit?! That doesn't matter to me as it's ready to go; it's just screaming out to be filled and lit immediately!
This lights up well and delivers a good smoke. It has a good complexity to it; the combination of tobaccos gives a very decently flavoured smoke. It seems, at first to have a slightly musky flavour, this doesn't last long, it settles quickly to become a smooth/creamy smoke. Once the muskiness has gone the smoke isn't dominated by one flavour alone. Instead the smoke is quite even in it's distribution of the tobacco's.
This burns well, giving a smoke that's free from bite and about medium in temperature.
The nicotine I get is about in the middle middle from this. It seems to be quite a pleasant strength. Mind you, anything that's not going to mangle your mind is okay by me!
The room note is very good; that's my opinion though, as it's pretty full it may offend some folks!
An easy tobacco to rate..... Highly recommended.
Four stars.

I initially tasted this from a sampler from Guntleys and it was top of my list,Although im a newby to pipe smoking and currently on the sampling trail this sweet, cool smoke is something ive come to realy enjoy and quickly again bought and compared to others i have. It suits what i am looking for at present. Love the taste, medium sweetness and scent when smoking in the house is pleasent, no complaints.
