London Blend - No. 700
A true classic in this series. Best Virginia and Orientals and approx. 30 % cypriotic Latakia. A sweet, tender mixture, offering an impressive depth of taste.
The natural Virginia sweetness harmonically blends in with the smoky spiciness of the Latakia.

Seeking something that would fit in between my before-dinner and after-dinner smokes (i.e., the milder Balkans and the heftier Lat bombs), I happened upon this little gem while at Dan Tobacco's store a few weeks ago.
Even for most English smokers, this is on the more substantial end. Opening the tin, the VA sweetness is quite noticeable, and so is the Lat smoke and a little extra spiciness. That, however, may just be the difference between Cyprian and Syrian Latakia.
This being a typical ribbon cut Mixture, medium-sized pipes are preferred, stuffing is easy, as is lighting, and maintenance is minimal; with a little care this blend burns from top to bottom leaving a light grey ash behind, needing only one or two tamps.
Probably originally conceived to compete with several Dunhill's blends, I must say No. 700 is a good fit: it has enough strength in both nicotine and Latakia, it burns completely uncomplicatedly, and it is affordable. That means the full rating for me, especially since this blend does make me smile.
I like to smoke this alongside a good Highlands Single Malt, maybe an older Loch Lomond.
