A delicate dose of Virginia sweet/tart flavor surrounds the palate with Cackling Canada Goose. My tin was factory date stamped to 2003, so it had plenty of age which probably is why I noted no bite from the red Virgina leaf. Typical of that tobacco, I did note some tartness though and it enhanced the overall presentation. I fully rubbed out the broken flakes to ensure an even burn, and unlike the previous reviewer, did not need a bunch of re-lights (probably due to the age of the leaf and the rubbing out of the flakes). With Bufflehead no longer in business this one will be hard to locate.

Cackling Canada Goose is one of the better Red/Orange Va.s I've tried. Yes, it can get out of hand like any Va blend but it does, as the good Mr. Windsor claims, smoke (relatively) cool and dry. Burn properties were about average with some relighting necessary at first and it should be dried a bit before lighting. Smoke volume is good, tin aroma is quite nice, the room note is alright, and the blend is notably smooth. My not keeping it on hand comes from the fact that CCG can be quite drying to one's mouth and, more so, because I really like McC's Red Cake. Can easily give CCG three stars though.
