1776 Tobacco Co Golden Eagle

(3.67)
A long time favorite. Rubbed, plug cut burley based mixture of selected Carolinas and Virginias. An extremely cool, no bite blend of fine flavor and appealing aroma.

I didn't add this blend, but it looks like I get to be the first to review it. I will start by saying that Aromatics are not my first choice of smoke rather a once in awhile treat. Aromatics taht would garner four stars from me would have a strong underlying tobacco taste and this one does not. So why three stars?

It is all a matter of room note, which I think is pretty important to aromatic smokers and I have received more compliments on this one than eny other. It is not bad tasting and I like it better than the venerable classic Captain Black White. The aroma is a mystery so I will take the first stab at my impressions of the same. I ask many people who do compliment it what they smell and the answer is almost always Vanilla. It certainly has some of this not to uncommon flavoring, but I also pick up a pastry type of smell, such as cookies or other baked goods.

The tobacco itself certainly has some form of treatment to it, it simply does not really dry out, but it does burn well in this condition. So I am giving this three stars, because I think aromatic smokers will really like it. As an added bonus Jack is great to deal with. I will also add to try his Old Dominion blend.

Jack Peterson is a great old style blender who recently retired. I've tried many of his blends and Double Eagle is my favorite but Golden Eagle is a close second. To me it is a higher grade version of old time cube cut burley favorites like Edgeworth, Kentucky Club Mild and others. Mr. Peterson's blend all have a common thread that runs through them. Something that ties them all together that I think identifies a truly great tobacco man. Golden Eagle has a great old time burley taste but with something more. Cocoa for sure but something else. It has a bit more topping than Double Eagle but is very pleasant. I'm an all day smoker and old time crushed plug is my choice. Golden Eagle, like Double Eagle is smooth, slow burning, great tasting and leaves a great room note. I couldn't recommend it any higher. 4 stars all the way. I am glad I stocked up but wish this was still in production.

A very smooth and delightful tobacco! This was my first time smoking a cube cut burley and I must say it was one of the best experiences I have ever had. The flavor was mild and unobtrusive and i was surrounded with sweet smoke. I smoked this outside on my break at work and after I went inside to buy something to drink my coworkers said my pipe went out and hoped that planned on relighting so I obliged them.Upon relight there was not any funky burned taste and the tobacco smoked as if it was a fresh bowl. This was the first time I ever smoked any tobacco that Jack blended and I must say I am glad that I did order a sample pack from him.I hope in the future I can buy more from him and not have to rely on his generous sample offers!
