HU Tobacco China's Heaven

The lightly applied tangerine and coconut toppings are obvious, but do not sublimate the tobaccos all that much. I notice the tangerine just a little more than I do the coconut, and both are complimented by the addition of a light rose essence. The bold Virginias are earthy, woody and vegetative, with a bit of fermented tangy dark fruit and tart and tangy citrus. The very earthy, toasted nutty, woody burley also has a little molasses and a touch of cocoa in an important secondary role. The nic-hit is just past the center of mild to medium. The strength level is medium, and the taste is just past medium. Won’t bite, or get harsh. Well blended and mildly complex, you’ll notice most every nuance in every puff. Burns at a slightly less than moderate rate, cool and clean with a very smooth, consistent flavor from start to finish. Requires a few relights, and leaves very little moisture in the bowl. The aftertaste pleasantly lingers and the room note is sweet and floral. Not an all day smoke, but it has enough going for it that you may want to come back to it in the same day.

One of the most complex aromatics I have ever smoked. A virginia/burley ready rubbed mixture with a tangerine/coconut/chocolate topping. Needs a little bit of drying time but 20 Minutes will do. The tobacco isn´t wet. The main taste is a semi sweet chocolate with a slight fruity aftertaste. All this flavours are carried on a very well tobacco base that still dominates the taste. Nice dark earthy virginias and nutty burley are givin this mixture a nice body. Taste stays till the end of the bowl and all flavours are detectable the whole time. Not an allday smoke. I love to sit down and just explore the taste of this fantastic tobacco.

I am normally a (full) aromatic smoker and Hans included several non / semi-aromatics in a recent order; I have to say that I like this a lot - an unexpected sweetness (not at all cloying) and spiciness.

A friend of mine from the San Diego Pipe Club occasionally mails me samples which I appreciate and this is one of them. I had never heard of HU tobaccos until a year a two when Reedbender, Prez of the club started taking orders as this is not sold in the US and is located in Germany. I never bothered as I have too much stocked away. I was able to smoke a good 3 medium size bowls in my Claw Meerschaum. I know there are purists out there that will only review a tobacco after they finish the tin. I am not one of them. 🙂 This has a nice crisp fruit/citrus tin note with a moist course medium cut of tobacco. This smokes mild with a nice natural taste along with a pleasant lightly sweet taste. An aromatic that you do not think of it being one necessarily as the tobacco still shines through within the topping. I enjoyed this on the front porch with my 10 percent Lion Kona Coffee that the wife got me for Christmas as I looked out at the dreary foggy winter morning. I do not particularly smoke certain tobaccos seasonally, i.e. Latakia in the winter, Virginias in the spring and summer, etc..
