HU Tobacco English Breakfast

The red Virginia is a little tangy, fermented dark fruit sweet with some earth, wood, and a hint of bread and spice, and is the most noticeable Va, though it’s really a team player rather than a dominant ingredient. The Cyprian Latakia is very smoky, woody, earthy, musty, and incense-like as it comprises twenty percent of the product as a supporting player. The Orientals offer wood, smoke, herbs, vegetation, earth, little sourness and spice with some buttery sweetness in a supporting role, too. The bright Virginia is tart and tangy citrus sweet with a little grassiness in a secondary role. The black stoved Virginia is stewed fruit sweet with minor earth notes as a back up player. The strength and taste levels are in the center of mild to medium. The nic-hit is a step short of that mark. Won’t bite, and has no harsh or dull moments, and just hints of rough edges. Well blended and complex, you will notice all the flavors to varying degrees in virtually every puff. Ribbon cut for easy, cool, clean burning at a moderate pace with mostly consistent, rich, sweet and savory, lightly campfire flavor that translates to short lived, pleasant after taste and stronger room note. It requires few relights, and barely leaves a drop of moisture in the bowl. An all day smoke, it makes a good starter English blend as well as an enjoyable change from stronger mixtures in this genre.

I am smoking English Breakfast now as I write this review. The smell of this tobacco in the tin is wholly delicious with a (almost) naturally sweet and smoking wood aroma to it. It is more like a Danish type english than an England produced english, a more toasty- and sweetness that is usually associated with Danish blends. Whatever little aromatization is used is only there to underline the natural tobacco taste. I asked Hans, the blender about the black tobacco in this blend as it seemed a bit more than 20%(Latakia is the only advertised black tobacco) and he said it also contained some Black Virginia that adds a natural sweetness to this blend. Supported by Virginia and Orientals and of course Syrian Latakia, this coarse cut blend would make a delightfull introduction to the bliss that is an Danish like english blend! The taste and aroma will develop best in a not too narrow pipe. Hans is a new force to be reckoned with and up there, if not above, the other established micro-blenders. Enjoy, Rob

This blend is well named , clearly designed to be the first smoke of the day . Very mild tin note , a nice looking ribbon and delivered somewhat moist in the can . The whole tin presentation simply invites one tp smoke it This is primarily a virginia mixture with a condimental dose of latakia and , somewhere hiding , some black cavendish . Of course one thinks of DunhillsEarly Morning Pipe when opening English Breakfast , Well , EMP is a latakia bomb compared to this but the intent is the same , to provide a latakia experience when the taste buds are just awakening . Mc Clelland Aniversary also is a good comparison . HU gives you the amounts of each component tobacco right on the label using the size of the print to denote the amount of each tobacco used . This one has a huge virginia and a much smaller latakia and a really tiny black cavendish . It must be remembered that the virginia used here is Empire virginia is not the domestic variety used in EMP . For those not used to the global variety it could be a little off setting experience . It does , however , add an almost floral aspect to the tobacco. So boys , butter your roll , pour your coffee and start the day like a real man , with a little latakia , and I mean a little latakia .

Got granted a generous sample of this. I was expecting something along the lines of Dunill's Early Morning Pipe... we'll see if it holds up to my expectations!

Broad, chunky ribbon-cut dominated by yellow, red and brown leafs with a decent amount of black Latakia (chunky) ribbons. Tin note is very gentle and offers some earth and wood, as well as a decent musty-smoky Latakia note. Has some comfy ethereal charme to it!

Two matches and it's burning albeit the chunky ribbon-cut! Instantly the Orientals tickle my palate, screaming *"I'm the star in here!"*. Dry, ethereal smoke with a rich, oily texture. The Latakia takes a seat in the background. The Virginia's sweetness builds up to set a delicate foundation for the Orientals to shine and the Latakia to season. Broad melange of flavor, but never overwhelming your taste buds. So yea...this definetly is a excellent morning smoke to get you going!

To me this is an Oriental-forward blend with all the ingridients in perfect harmony! The Orientals are really rich in flavors and ethereal oiliness, they make for a mouth-filling and palate spoiling smoke. Smooth, earthy-sweet and minor grassy Virginia mix setting the foundation. The Latakia seasoning, contrasting and rounding off with its peaty and musty, woodsy-leathery smokiness in the background, interlacing with the dry spice of the Turkish leafs.

Nope.. this is no Dunhill EMP at all to me, but a more burly brother to the Asmara blend by HU I'd proclaim! But it's a classy smoke, with a traditional english charme to it, I'll definetly get a tin of this with my next order. Smooth, yet rich, and very sophisticated... that's how I'd describe this in few words. Now, in the summer-time I smoke less Latakia blends and when I do I prefer blends with minor Latakia additions...strange phenomenon that a lot of pipe smokers can relate to I guess... but this hits the nail on the head for me! 4/4 stars - pure english excellence for any time of the day!

This is another HU offering that I have been lucky enough to be gifted. It's the first HU lat I've tried so I was quite intrigued to find out what it tasted like.

The aroma of the tobacco itself is very mild with hints of the latakia coming through. The packing and lighting are very easy. The smoke itself is gorgeous, there's just enough latakia to keep it perky but there is a real sweetness to it too. It's like having a coffee in the morning with a sugar, there's enough kick to get started and enough sweetness to keep you going.

In summary, a very good smoke, it would probably make a very good introduction to lats. And once again, HU maintain their good reputation IMHO in making this great tobacco.

She smells like an English blend and looks the part. Moisture was perfect.

The Latakia is not too heavy but at 20% you’ll know it’s there. Musty, herbal, incense, smokey Latakia along with some bread, earth, sour fermentation, vegetative, semi sweetness. The Virginias in here are wonderful and can be easily detected. A not overly complex or a dark English blend. Perfect for… well breakfast. More complex and flavorful than EMP or similar light English though. This is welcome smoke with coffee after breakfast. Retrohale is semi sweet, with bread notes, some sour, and with herbal smokey characteristics. Did tingle my nose slightly. Towards the middle of the bowl when pushed I did get some dried fruit flavors which was a welcome surprise.. No bite or mouth tingle.

A well done English blend with a bit of complexity to make it interesting.
