Joschi’s Oriental Sunrise. Our Joschi is a calm but jovial type. He doesn‘t much like to raise attention to his person, but he‘s always present. Joschi prefers natural or slightly aromatized tobaccos. This classic oriental blend is just after his fancy. A creamy Virginia Broken Flake forms the basis. It has been mixed with equal parts of Louisiana Perique, Kentucky Burley and Samsoun Oriental, which breathe a whole new life into the Virginia. The flavored tobaccoes, especially the very expressive Samsoun Oriental, make for a wonderfully uncomplicated and yet interesting blend which develops its unique taste without the use of additional flavorings. This is how good tobacco can taste on its own. A blend for the calm and quiet bon vivant as pleasure needs no words.

Only high quality tobaccos were used here. The Kentucky burley has a slight pistachio flavor and light, light sweetness with a very slight earthiness to it. It's as light a Kentucky burley flavor as can be and yet, it compliments the other flavors nicely in the background. The perique is very mildly spicy with some raisin and figs, and plays almost at the same level as the burley does. The Orientals are woody, dry, buttery sweet and slightly sour, and are prominent, though this is not an Oriental-bomb as this blend is well balanced. The grassy, citrusy, lightly dark fruity Virginia sets the base for the other ingredients. Has a mild nic-hit. Won't bite or get harsh. Burns cool and clean at a reasonable pace with a fairly consistent taste. leaves little moisture in the bowl, and needs an average number of relights. Has a pleasant after taste. An all day, creamy smoke that especially goes well with tea and coffee. I suggest a big bowl to get the nuance of the varying flavors.

This one became my go-to tobacco instantly - if I'm not in the mood for aromatics, I smoke 'Joschi's'.

No surprises here - you get all the characteristics of each tobacco used: creamy virginia, nutty burley, stingy perique, aetherical samsoun. (Only highest quality tobaccos were used!) What's special about this blend: you can actually taste all tobaccos used! Yet it adds up to a very harmonic and pleasant smoking experience: a simple but very honest tobacco blend. Highly recommended!

The Joschi`s Oriental Sunrise is a very nice, mild and naturally blend. The sweet virginias and the oriental leaf are well balanced. So, the Joschi is a complex blend without tounge bite. The burley and the kentucky tobaccos are only in the background and gives this blend a nice body. I like this tobacco during the whole day because this blend needs no attention. Maybe in the evening or for a concentrating smoke, the Joschi`s is for me a bit too light. But this blend is recommended for smokers who like naturally tobacco without a high nicotin level. A very well made tobacco!

Joschi`s Oriental Sunrise is a classical orient blend with burley and perique. It`s a very uncomplicated blend with a beautifull sweet spice. The tobacco burns very well and you need no attention. It`s not a great blend for the evening. It`s a nice blend for the whole day.Not too strong, with a subtle flavour of pure tobacco.

Wow!! I am excited with this tobacco. Joschi's Oriental Sunrise is not what I expected judging from the title, an Oriental forward blend, but it's a fantastic natural tasting tobacco nevertheless. It has a wonderful medium strength that allows one to smoke it all-day without fatigue, and what's more without any tongue bite and with plenty of taste so as not to get bored. Cannot place it in any category, i.e. Va/Per, Oriental or anything else. To me however the leader here as far as taste is concerned is the Burley with the other tobaccos adding nuances, body, flavors.

It is a mixed cut, consisting of broad cut ribbons and rather finely cut broken flakes. Colors range from bright to medium brown to dark brown. Tin note has the fruitiness of a Va/Per without much of Virginia tanginess.

It has good moisture to pack and light and it only needs a few relights and smokes fairly dry. Strength is on the mild side of medium and taste-wise what I get is mostly a nutty Burley with a fair amount of sweetness which might be from the Virginias. It is juicy smoke, it shines when kept smouldering where a succulent, sweet nuttiness comes forth and it is quite complex and not fully homogenised in the sense that with every puff you do not get exactly the same notes. I am not sure I can taste the Samsun, nor the Perique but this is not just a plain Burley with some Virginias, it is much more complex than that, so I guess their contribution is significant even if I cannot tell what exactly it is.

The level of nicotine and the strength of this tobacco are one more of its assets, kept at a mostly medium level they allow one to smoke without fatigue. It burns slow, it tastes like pure natural tobacco, what more can one ask for?

This is not only a four star tobacco for me but I see it becoming one of my favourites.

Correction: After smoking McClelland's Black Sea Sokhum, which is a strain of Samsun seed, described as "almost cigar-like, rich and deep and mellow", I can now see more clearly the affinities with Joschi's and it's Oriental character. The Oriental leaf here (Samsun) is not as sour, loamy and tangy as Basma let's say, yet it still has an Oriental taste but also a cigar-like nuttiness which I mistook for Burley. So Joschi's is after all an Oriental forward blend and my initial impression was mistaken...

Excellent selection, but it is way too mild to interest me. Nice virginia fundamental, the rest is a not exciting nuance. More like a "Va Light" smoke to me.
