The original version of this was sub-titled "Ripe Brown". With a name like that you just have to try it. It was my first taste of Dark shag cut Va., and it was heavenly. Very rich, full bodied flavor, with a fair strength. A more refined Royal Yacht. Generally smoked cool and dry, unless puffed too fast. I hope the new version is the same quality, but I haven't found any yet.

Dobie's Red, as I usually call Ready Rubbed Flake), was a super mild flake of mostly Virginia. The descriptive on TRC indicates an Oriental element, but I just don't remember tasting any Oriental components. Super soft and light, with a little more depth of flavor than you find with most light Bright leaf. Probably due to the aging as my tin was at least 20 years old. Probably the least impressive of all the outstanding Dobie blends that I've smoked, but since I like a little more strength in my Virginia smokes, that was probably why my "Impress meter" was on the low side.

A very nice but rather flat tobacco.

A broken flake, golden and brown leaves, all natural, no casing added; sort of smelled like hay freshly cut, but with no sweet smell in the background ( like MacBaren's Virginia no 1).

A beautiful tobacco, but a bit tasteless while being smoked....

Perfect for a beginner that wants to go towards the more natural bakkies, but I've heard the Four Square line is now discontinued.

Correct me if I'm wrong, it might still be available in Europe...

This one is very similar to Astley's No. 109. Top quality VA leaf, natural sweet taste, nicely matured, good burn qualities, won't bite anyone but unfortunately way too mild in the nic-department. My tin was 15 years old, but the ageing did not make this one worth very much... I'll stick to my stronger VA's...
