Dan Tobacco Kriswill Golden Navy Cut

(3.00)
A smooth classical flake tobacco prepared after traditional English methods from only the best grades of Virginia leaf with a high content of natural sweetness, gently matured to bring out its optimum of natural tobacco flavours. Slow burning with cool smoke and the typical sweet taste of dried figs and prunes.
Notes: Formerly known as Mellow Navy Cut.

The Virginias provide a bit of tart and tangy citrus and grass, a little tangy lemon and sugar with a touch of floral hay, figs, acidicity, wood and earth. The strength is a couple steps past mild, and the taste is a hair past that mark, falling short of the center of mild to medium. The nic-hit is mild. Won’t bite or get harsh, but can offer a tongue tingle if puffed fast. Has a light rough edge once in a while. May need a light dry time. Burns fairly cool, a little slow, and fairly clean with a very consistent flavor all the way to the finish. Leaves little dampness in the bowl, and requires a few relights. Has a pleasant, short lived after taste and room note. An all day smoke.

I smoked Kriswill over a decade ago and the memory of its light yet sweet presentation remains. In fact, everytime i sell a Kriswill pipe I think of this blend. It was so long ago when i smoked it that I had to go to my notes. I gave it an 8 out of 10 and underlined the words light, sweet. Just a nice Virginia for those who enjoy less strength and still want flavor.

Good little virgina flake this one.

Seen it likened to the excellent Capstan's yellow and yes, it's not far off. Doesn't quite have that little extra edge that Capstan has, but nevertheless a good tobacco, but nothing really lifts it beyond the ordinary virginia flake.

Yes it's moist in the tin, and loads and burns really well (I'm a rubber-outa) with little aftertaste or aroma. Spanks the bottom of English virginias with it's under 10 Euros price. What's the betting bloody Brexit ruins all that.

A fine all-day smoker and an excellent stand-in for Capstan, well worth having in stock.

I find that this Virginia flake has two personalities. Fresh off the tin, the smoke is sweet, citrusy and a lot of dry figs taste. It probably has a topping of some sort but it's expertly applied if it's the case. After some weeks and of course a dryer tobacco, it becomes grassy, a more subdued citrus flavor and the dry figs are only there on occasion, the sweetness pretty much gone.

Burning qualities are very good, cool, slow burning and no bite. As with all Virginia flakes, disciplined puffing is the ticket for a 1st class smoke. This pipe tobacco is great for beginners of Virginia flakes and is highly recommended for any Virginia smoker.

The tobacco deliveres exactly what the tin promises: it burns slowly and does give a nice cool smoke. I've bought the 250 gram pouch about a year ago and keep it in an airtight container - because I forgot about it. I feel it needs that time as I remember that I found the initial smokes disappointing. Loosened and normally packed in a middle size bowl, it lasts easily ninety minutes.

I've downgraded this tobacco as it's tin life isn't good. I've ended up cutting it with some slightly flavoured tobacco.
