The Cyprian latakia does not overwhelm the other components, but possesses the smokey, woody sweet qualities you expect it to. The Turkish provides a dry, woody, slightly buttery sweetness as a complimentary addition. The Virginias are a little grassy with a light tangy citrus, and a touch of earth as the base component. The differences between this and the original is that the Virginia in the Match has fewer grass notes, and is a little sweeter, and maybe has a pinch less latakia, though the sweetness of the Va. might be mitigating the latakia hit just a mite. Otherwise, it’s a fairly close Match and less expensive, too. The strength and taste levels are in the center of mild to medium. Has a mild nic-hit. Won't bite or get harsh. Burns cool (more so than the original, which could get warm on the tongue) and clean at a moderate pace with a very consistent flavor. Leaves little moisture in the bowl, and needs an average number of relights. Has a nice after taste, and is an all day smoke. I gave three stars to the original.

I’m a big fan of both Match and Dunhill’s Early Morning Pipe. If I’m having a morning smoke while reading the bible, EMP is my smoke of choose. Having said that; had I been introduced to London Mixture first, this could have easily been my morning blend. (But then again the name Early Morning Pipe kinda says it all)

This London Mixture is real nice. A little sweetness is enjoyed and the aroma in the bag, tickling the nose and the room is a pure delight.

I can certainly see London Mixture as being part of my rotation.

I was very surprised at this blend. A very mild English mixture that the B&M swore was actual Dunhill. Regardless, I gave it a shot and enjoyed. Kind of bitey but after a bowl or two my mouth adjusted just fine. It's hard for me to find any tinned English blends so I'll stick with this bulk. Worth the price!

This, like all of the Altadis Dunhill match tobaccos is an awesome smoke. Easy on the tongue all day stuff. Awesome taste. The latakia is not over bearing on the room note. I can't decide if I like this one or "965" match the best.

Buy them both as you will not be disappointed.

It is now called Big Ben. The cut is rather large ribbon mostly light and dark brown with a small proportion of latakia. The taste is similar to the original but falls short for my tastes. I think blenders of these current match blends are using leaf of a lower quality then they had been a few years back. But, it is easy on the wallet. Made mine a little better by adding some latakia.

I’ve been smoking this daily for about a week in my drive home. Have never tried London Mixture from Dunhill. This came a little moist for my preference - but that is easily remedied.

This was surprising as the profile changes throughout the smoke. Very Latakia forward in the beginning. Lots of sooty flavor. Sweetness pokes in and out. Mod-bowl I seem to experience an almost toasted marshmallow thing. Creamy and slightly sweet. Can get a little grassy at times. I quite enjoy it. Not too strong as far as nicotine, but the room note will scare the wife and kids away. Might take a few lights to get going well. Overall - A pretty good bargain and a good smoke. Great return on the dollar.

Having never smoked Dunhill's original London Mix, I can only judge this tobacco based on what it is now, not on how it compares to the original. The first few puffs want to bite, and are not particularly flavorful; not a good combination. However, after the first few puffs it settles down and the flavor starts coming through and it continues to get better as the bowl is smoked. It's a light English, not real heavy on the latakia, with a good balance between the Virginias and Orientals to give a neturally sweet and rich taste, neither trying to overpower the other.

What reached me had just the right moisture level, but being a bulk tobacco this may vary.

A very pleasant smoke that, once started, sits easy on the tongue. Being a light smoke the room note is far more pleasant than most English/Balkan blends, but someone does need to like tobacco in order to like the aroma.

Very mild English blend, lighter than EMP in my opinion. Latakia is a background component offering just a hint of smoky flavor. The Orientals and Virginia tobaccos are well balanced so that nothing really steps on the other. A balanced, mild English blend. Easy all day smoke, think fall yard work...

QUICK REVIEW: SUTLIFF BIG BEN (MATCH DUNHILL LONDON MIXTURE)

Moving on to the second contender on my Super Value English Mixture replacement search, yet another Sutliff product. On this occasion I sampled their Big Ben offering which was designed as a replication of the Dunhill London Mixture, a highly revered standard of old long gone by the wayside. Not necessarily an even match to the Super Value mixture in terms of constituents, but a touted medium style blend either way.

The base components within both the Sutliff imitation and Dunhill’s original recipe feature a blending of Latakia, Turkish, and Virginia, befitting for a traditional English in my opinion. Respectfully the ratios are different, however. Big Ben delivers a flavor departure that is somewhat fanciful by comparison.

Looking at the tobacco, it appeared to be Virginia/Turkish dominant with a lessor volume of Latakia for complementing, which really was confirmed upon registering the taste profile. This a bulk product that comes with an ideal dryness, showing a very dense matrix of freely cut ribbon and coarse cut shredding. With that, there is a little challenge packing the pipe, but the resulting bowl wadding was nonetheless dense, and all be it springy. Incidentally the pouch nose tends to be rather conservative in character modeling a reserved tartness supported by spicy wood overall. English distinction!

Key points of the assessment: 2.9 measured scoring. It achieved impressive marks with regards to base mechanicals, flavor attributes, and conformance to desirable genre standards. As to the three varietals within the blending, Big Ben exemplifies about 83% achievement on key leaf features. Applying my subject appeal factor, I assigned an overall scoring of 3.3. I thoroughly enjoyed its unique presentation and would definitely consider purchasing this one again.

Medium strength/intensity : the blending quality Sutliff is well done, culturing a nuanced product that endows a refined level of sweetness, exotic spice, and the robust native bottom of a traditional stately English fare.

Baseline: Virginia (an even balance of seasoned wood & sweet citrusy grass, a bit of bread & caramel)

Forward mid-band taste : Turkish (tastefully spiced, herbal/earthy centric, nice level of pungency) Admittedly if you love the Orientals then take note. This blend’s featuring of affronting and exceptional Turkish influence is a significant contribution.

Accenting: Latakia (primarily a smoky wood & musty leather persona, decidedly sour) This stream is present as a garnishment to the overall meld. It tends to be modest yet makes a gainful statement as a thickening highlight on top-rear tracing.

The meld of flavors demonstrated impressive confluence and integration, giving the general persona a mellow, posh feel. You feel the distinction/intellectual side with this one.

Moderately complex recipe that produces a balanced consistent flavor, not too much movement.

Produces creamy streams of lighter bodied smoke that exhibits considerable permanence and remarking. Categorically the aroma is on the strong side, a deep sweet fragrance of colorful wooded spice. For English zealots probably very pleasant for those who are not mostly likely a bit overbearing.

The burn charted along with a relaxed tempo, nicely dry and even

A good all-day blend that is not to bold/intense to smoke casually.

Cost is affordable
