The burley is a little nutty with some earth, wood and molasses as the lead component. The grassy, tart and tangy citrusy Virginia is a supporting player. The sugary black cavendish is mildly sweet in a secondary role. The bourbon whiskey topping is creamy as it sublimates the tobaccos to a fair extent without completely drowning them out. The strength is in the center of mild to medium. The taste of the blend is medium. The nic-hit is a couple of steps past the mild mark. There’s no chance of bite or harshness. Barely has a rough edge. Burns cool and clean at a moderate pace with a very consistent rich bourbon taste that translates to the pleasantly lingering after taste, and room note. Leaves little dampness in the bowl, and requires an average number of relights. A smooth all day smoke with a little depth of flavor.

Bourbon blend, yes indeed! The first whiff of the bag, bought in bulk, has strong notes of Kentucky’s gift to the world! Not just bourbon but quality bourbon. The mixture of Black Cavendish, Burley and Virginia marry well together with the topping. I get some flavor of brown sugar, nuts and hay along with the subtle flavor of oaky spicy bourbon. Loads, lights and burns well with little moisture in the bowl. Not a nicotine laden blend but enough to give satisfaction. I have enjoyed this blend several times over the past week ( 2 bowls a day on most occasions) Recommend this blend if you are in search of a mild tasty aromatic bourbon blend sans harshness and tongue distress! A note to this, the flavor really improves if you let it dry out a good bit.

I may no longer be able to consume alcohol, but even I never thought I could smoke it.

WOW!

I figured this one would be a shot in the dark Aro. like most of the ones I have had before.

WRONG!

The "bag note" was like sticking my nose right into a bottle of Jim Beam! I could even detect the subtle spices in the bourbon flavoring.

After I packed the bowl nice and full, got her light and started puffing, I was surprised that I hadn't taken one drink. This baccy is seriously spot on when delivering the bourbon flavor and aroma!

Now, with something like this, I would imagine being one dimensional is part of the idea. The name of the tobacco is bourbon, why should its flavor profile change?

My only complaint is that if you smoke it too fast, it's like drinking too fast, it catches up with you and bites! (Burley and tend to go toe to toe.) Also, it burns very nicely all the way down, leaving little to no dottle. An excellent detail!

On a great side note, my wife walked into the bedroom and declared, "That smells really good! That other one stunk, smoke this one."

Heh, if she only understood.

This tobacco gets a 10 from me, and a spot in my regular rotation.

I got this as a freebie so I had no problem or likeing it or putting it to shame. I half expected to put it to shame. I honestly can't.

I'm not a drinker anymore and when I was I never found a palate for bourbon or whisky. I have an old bourbon barrel on the back porch and on a hot summer day you can smell the bourbon resins. I actually like the smell of bourbon but I can't drink it for nothing. I'm definately not an eccentric when it comes to bourbons either.

In any case I can accurately say that the pouch note is that of bourbon. Quite nice indeed. I even detected a whiff of alcohol vapors escaping the pouch as well. Definately not an artificial casing here. However the toby was pretty dry. Almost crunchy dry but not quite. Pretty much like Prince Albert from a pouch kind of dry.

Lights up just fine with little to no effort (no doubt due to the dryness). Your first few puffs will suprise your nose and tongue. There's definately bourbon there. The nice part is that it is not over bearing. Just nice bourbon flavor and aroma. Burn to a nice white ash.

Oh yes the tobacco flavors come through nicely but do not dominate the bourbon. Nor does the bourbon dominate the toby's. Burley and Cavnedish are evident in a nice roundish and complimentary way. The additon of the virginia was a nice touch as it adds that edge to the bourbon for a nice finishing note. I did expect a soapy after taste to develope which is evidence of artificial flavorings. It never happened.

Yes it can bite if you're a power puffer. Sip it and you'll do just fine.

All 3 toby's are there. You can taste them and the bourbon as well. The room note is quite pleasant though I wouldn't be surprise if your better half takes slight issue with it. I'll keep this in my rotation and most likely buy more when the stash gets low enough.

I did get a case of dry mouth but it wasn't wicked bad. But enough to make mention here. - .5 for the dry mouth and - .5 for the dry pouch. I'd like to see the toby with a little more moisture content. That would most likely solve both minor issues.

3 stars.... definately worth tryiing.

Thanks for the freebee Altadis.

This is by far the worst aromatic I have ever tried. If they flavored this with bourbon it must be the stuff that couldn't even make the bottom shelf. The best way I can describe the taste is... imagine taking a plain Bayer asprin and letting it melt on your tongue. That is how bitter this blend tastes. A decent bourbon is aged for several years and allowed to mellow and develop flavor from the tanins in the oak barrels. They must have used fresh distilled whiskey or pure grain alcohol as a topping because it surely is not Kentucky Straight Bourbon. They should stick with a simple spirit, like rum, to create aromatic tobacco blends. I suppose a complex spirit like bourbon is not going to translate well as a topping for tobacco and you end up with something awful, like you have here. With all the choices a great tasting aromatics, there is no reason to waste you time or money on this one. If you like bourbon, buy yourself a nice bottle of Knob Creek small batch, or Four Roses and drink it. Spend your smoking dollars somewhere else.

I hate to give bad reviews on anything. Generally if I can't say something nice I keep quiet. But this one was so disappointing I felt I should share my experience.

The “bag note” of this one is rich and boozy. I was a little excited about this one. The first pipe tobacco I ever bought was whisky-flavored blend from a bulk jar at my local B&M. This was a pleasant smoke. It burned smoothly and had a mild but nice flavor. The bourbon was not overwhelming, but definitely showed up often. Unfortunately, that was about it. I was wishing for more in this blend. All in all, it was just ok. It was nutty and definitely had whisky added to it, but I was hoping for more. I guess my expectations were a little high, and I was ultimately disappointed by a perfectly reasonable smoke

I've been looking for a decent bourbon aromatic since trying the "Old Grand-Dad" one (good enough bourbon, not so much tobacco) that used to give me tongue bite just looking at it 🙂

The bag note is bourbon through and through. The tobacco is moist enough to clump together in the bag. The tobacco is ribbon cut and has and overall medium brown appearance.

Once loaded in the pipe it usually takes a couple of lights to get going well. If sipped slowly (it's bourbon afterall) the flavor comes through clear and it burns reasonably cool. If you push it, then you could experience tongue bite.

If you find the bourbon taste too monotone, it's easy to blend in some blending white burley tobacco to give more tobacco taste to the smoke. I've added 25% burley without losing any of the bourbon taste and adding some additional "toasted" flavor to the blend.

This isn't an all day smoke to me, but it's a nice treat in the evening especially when paired with your favorite bourbon or bourbon mixed drink. I'll be getting more when it is on sale and keeping a jar on-hand for when I want a sweet treat.
