The whisky topping is rather weak, but pleasant. The black cavendish barely offers any vanilla. I get a little nuttiness and toast from the burleys, and some citrus and a drop of honey from the gold cavendish. Has almost no nicotine. Won't bite. Burns cool and clean at a moderate pace with a consistent, dull flavor. Hardly needs a relight, and leaves little moisture in the bowl. The after taste is hardly noticeable. A very mild all day smoke.

I like to review blends on their own merits considering the classification, and for its type, Black Whiskey 511 is simply outstanding. It is a mellow, light and clean burning blend with a decided whiskey top note that is sure to please. I saw where another reviewer compared this blend to the popular Altadis offering Count Pulaski. Unlike the Count, this one contains not a hair of Latakia and is not similar in any way (according to my taste buds), except for the fact that it has a light alcohol casing. For my pipe smoking friends who enjoy alcohol tasting casings, this is a bell ringer. Enjoy!

You know how every house has its particular signature:
Lane is vanilla.
Stokkebye is chocolate.
Gawith is lakeland floral.
McClelland is virginia ketchup.
GLP is harsh and bitter.
Middleton is burly.
Well, this is the Altidis course cut base with a slight anise and whiskey topping that is a bit smokey smelling in the pouch. Cut is rough, big lumps and sticks, small ropes and big leaf pieces, very wet and sticky. Mixed colors of dark brown and about 90% jet black. I guess the brown is the virginia and the rest a rather bland black cavendish. Really looks heavy duty. Similar to the Count Pulaski base without the latakia.
The initial light is mild virginia, a little sweetness and a nice black walnut taste. Further on the slight bitter black walnut taste turned into more of a burly bitter, abet light, while the virginia disappeared.
Easy to keep lit, and produces loads of lovely, moist, smooth creamy mild smoke. No real flavor, but good for the days you just want to practice blowing smoke rings.
Nice change for the aromatic smoker looking for a very mild black cavendish with very little of the usual chocó/vanilla flavor.
PS: In my rateing system, 1 star means I personally would not buy it again, not that it is a bad tobacco. You may love it.
