Almost nine years ago it was my first pipe-tobacoo ever, so don't judge me for my sentimental feelings. Low price is the first cause of Poniatowski's popularity among students and beginners that are still afraid to buy something more expensive. The second cause is the pudding sweetness, which is so desirable by pipe-novices. Room note is Poniatowski's biggest advantage. Propably the best pipe-tobacco from Poland, but I would rather recommend it only to aromatic blend lovers.

Named after the last Polish king, Stanislaw Poniatowski (abdicated in 1792), this mixture is pleasant, reasonably light, burns well and leads to a slightly abrupt and perhaps disappointing slightly bitter finish, much like the good king's reign. However, the first two-thirds (or even 3 4ths) of the bowl are pleasant; possibly just that the tobacco needs a bit of drying to reduce the residual moisture which makes the final bit a bit bitter.

A Polish work colleague brought me some of this back from Poland. Opening the packet was like being whacked in the face with something steeped in Vanilla! I know that is the point of it, but this stuff is overloaded with it.
It is mild, and it generated a favoursome response from my partner, which can only be a good thing. And our cat, who always joins me outside when I smoke, was clearly enjoying it too, as she would always purr loudly when I smoked it!

Although I was not the reviewer who requested this tabac, I will be happy to be the first to review it. I was in Krakow this summer and as I was strolling through that magnificent city I wished to purchase a Polish Tobacco. That was no problem as pipes are sold on almost every corner in Krakow. Poniatowski is a very dry & mellow vanilla flavored cavendish. It actually has a slightly bitter note, like the equivalent of dark chocolate. This provides a dry and flavorful smoke. The room note is wonderful.I think what makes this so interesting is the Oriental leaf added to this aromatic mix. It prevents the blend from becoming cloying. It also gives a richer flavor. If you liked Stanwell's Vanilla this will be a nice change. 3 of 3 stars.
