It has been a couple of years since I've posted any C&D blend reviews and I have smoked nearly 100 tins of their various offerings in that time. So, it may be awhile before I get to all of them.

Levant was really rich and smoky with a lot of bottom due to the black Cavendish. The Perique appeared off and on throughout the smoke, but it was the fine Syrian Latakia in Levant that made for the best part of the presentation. I think I will always prefer Oriental and Virginia presence in my English blends because without them, the presentation is usually a little rough. That was not the case with this now out of production blend.

I got a sample of Levant because I liked Baalbek so much and wanted to try out its cousin. Levant is very different from Baalbek, however. Where Baalbek is complex and well-balanced, Levant is a simpler latakia blend with a less-complicated taste: latakia. It also seems stronger and fuller to me, but this is probably just because there are fewer flavors blended together here.

I like it quite a lot when I am in the mood for latakia. The added black cavendish makes the smoke very thick and creamy and it's a lot of fun to blow smoke rings with. The perique is there, but is not intrusive. All in all, a very smooth smoke with a full latakia taste. Those who like English blends should try this one.
