This blend is mostly Latakia with some black Cavendish to keep things interesting. There is a pronounced Perique smell in the tin, but it does not translate into the smoke. I think you could attribute the cool smoke and total lack of tongue bite to the Perique. The black Cavendish adds some body to an already bold blend. I really like the Latakia in this blend, it is pronounced but not overwhelming at all! This blend is a bit too one dimensional to be called a favorite.

I got a sample of Levant because I liked Baalbek so much and wanted to try out its cousin. Levant is very different from Baalbek, however. Where Baalbek is complex and well-balanced, Levant is a simpler latakia blend with a less-complicated taste: latakia. It also seems stronger and fuller to me, but this is probably just because there are fewer flavors blended together here.

I like it quite a lot when I am in the mood for latakia. The added black cavendish makes the smoke very thick and creamy and it's a lot of fun to blow smoke rings with. The perique is there, but is not intrusive. All in all, a very smooth smoke with a full latakia taste. Those who like English blends should try this one.

Perhaps my favorite of all Cornell and Diehl syrian latakia range. This one is all dark and that bit denser. Rich and well balanced for a blend with perique, it is not overfull in flavour and offers the right amount of spice and strenghth. I feel that this is more than half the battle in finding the perfect tobacco, as often a blend can be to mild or to strong .For me this is close to perfect.

The use use both latakias must in someway create the complexity of flavour against the more netural cavendish background. The blends with virginas tend not to the trick for me. Recommended.

A nice heavy blend of latakia . The flavor is outrageous , in a good way , but the smoke tends to get bitter towards the middle of the bowl for me . Latakia lovers should definately give this one a try . I find it on the same level with Old Ironsides in latakia strength .

levant is a little fuller mixture than its' cousin baalbek, with more emphasis on the two latakias. it also has some perique, but it is not as noticeable as in baalbek. if you are a latakia fan, though, you will probably love this blend. the taste really reminds me of a slightly milder version of pirate kake, another tobacco that i like very much. it's lighting and burn characteristics are similar to pirate kake, also. this is one area where it is superior to baalbek. C&D has several other blends with syrian latakia; after sampling baalbek and levant, i think i will have to give them a try, too. four stars.
