This is a must for anyone who enjoys a fruity and richly flavored aromatic pipe tobacco. A little on the pricey side, but highest quality tobaccos warrant the expense.

BACKSTORY: This was the first pipe tobacco I ever tried, over a dozen years ago when stationed in Germany. Several German gentlemen from all manner of vocations (police, forest rangers, restaurant owners, etc.) I knew smoked pipes and all of them recommended the pipe as a great way to give up cigarettes (stopped smoking those years ago).

In Germany, at one time you could find tobacco stores in every decent sized village and town, so there was no shortage on availability. Luckily, I found a shop where the owner was a pipe smoker willing to impart some education and spend some time going over the differences between tobaccos. After we picked out a pipe (he included a tamper, some pipe cleaners, matches and a leather pipe pouch), he recommended Vauen Jubilee Edition (Vauen Jubilaumsedition) as a starter tobacco.

The shop owner popped open the can and spilled some of the contents onto a newspaper and highlighted the differences between the individual leaves using the tamper to separate the contents. He explained the differences between the Kentucky, Cavendish, and Virginia tobaccos, stressing the uniqueness of each as a component or ingredient, explaining how each adds to the overall flavor. He also recommended the blend due to the content of high quality tobaccos in form, to include some cuts and shreds of pressed/flaked tobacco, something not normally found in an aromatic pipe tobacco.

TOBACCO: I’ve described the contents above and must reiterate the highest quality tobaccos are used in this blend. The flavoring is a fruity mix of berries and apricots and not at all medicinal, more natural with a raisin-esq back-note. I’ve read other descriptions that mention the potential for perique tobacco, hence the raisin-ish flavor, but it’s not peppery or sharp at all. The pressed Virginia is a flavor surprise, when mixed with the fruitiness. My wife absolutely adores the room note which triggers various memories for her of Germany and our time abroad.

Upon opening the can, you’ll immediately sense the delectable plummy/apricot like top note, which actually stays present to the end of the smoke and a colorful representation of tobacco varietals, evenly disbursed through the tin: Bright and dark portions and of course, the mottled flakes. It’s moist in the can, but when it’s permitted time to dry, there is no syrupy residue or tackiness…as I said, the highest quality tobacco. Jubilee Edition loads well into a large or smaller chambered pipe, lights easily and burns evenly.

I routinely smoke this tobacco and it’s available from a number of different online vendors in the states and of course, available in Europe. I would recommend this aromatic blend above all others…if you like fruity aromatic blends, you’ll love this and when alight-it tastes the same as it smells. As a beginner or seasoned pipe smoker (I smoke a wide range of other blends and brands to include Orientals, VA’s, VA/PER and latakia based tobaccos ), you’ll find this is an exceptional tobacco, worth the price.

In sum, this is the only aromatic I’ll ever stock in any great quantity and I’m surprised no one else has provided a review. Solid four out of four stars.

Vauen - Jubilaums.

It isn't a ribbon cut, as currently stated, it's a mixture. Quite a charismatic one, at that. A high proportion of it's cut in coarse ribbons but there are coins and pieces of flake, too. These chunkier pieces appear to be Virginia but the ribbons are a 50/50 Virginia to black Cavendish split. The smell is of exotic fruit, not plums, cherries, berries, etc. My tin had great hydration when opened.

It lights with exemplary ease, and from the off is congruent to the word exotic. I get passion fruit, maybe a little mango, a slight lemon-zestiness, but not 'Western' fruit; like the aroma, no plums, cherries, berries, etc. The tobaccos are quite fairly distributed. It isn't too turgescent or heavy with black Cav, neither is it too sprightly with fresh Virginia. They share the profile nicely; the buoyant Virginia is placated, somewhat, by the creamy Cav'. I get a good burn, no bite, and a medium temperature.

Nicotine: mild. Room-note: nice.

Jubilaums? Do I like it? No. Do I think it's well made? Yes. So, being fair and forgetting my subjective opinion (LOL, I opened it by mistake!), I'll recommend it:

Three stars.

I bought this last night. Opened this morning, smoke a bowl with my Chacom churchwarden. I thought it was the ghost in my pipe that I have not use for awhile. It reallg not as described in the other reviews. I didn't taste or smell any flavour only plain tobacco smell. I do smell hint of fruitiness from tin. But before lighting up i suck in the pipe to get the initial feel but nothing. I prefer The Shire or Champagne & Strawberry blend from Vauen.

WOW!! What a great tobacco. Love this one. This is one of my favourite flavoured tobacco.

When I open the tin a rich and fruitly smell came out. The smell is very pleasant of plum and a little bit of apricot. The curly cut and flake pieces of the Virginia, Kenntucky, Louisianna and Black Cavendish tobacco burn very well. No tongue bites. The room note is very pleasant. I can recommend this tobacco totally.

Edit: Love this tobacco in a Full or Army Bent

The moment I first opened it's shiny metallic body, I was in for a surprise. My fruity smell, from the tin immediately invaded my car. My brother, who is not a pipe man, complimented it's aroma. It was his first time smelling a tin of freshly opened pipe tobacco.

In the first quarter of the bowl, the taste was pleasant but nothing too special however as you reach past that first quarter. It slowly bloomed and sparkled into the ''fruity paradise'' my tobacconist talked about.

Chances for tongue bite are low because I only received it once. All in all, I recommend it to anyone who are keen into aromatics.

Having just opened the tin two nice little flakes popped out and also the rest of the tobacco looks very sexy with its parts of flake and curly cut inside the light and dark loose cut. The cold smell reminds me of jelly but couldn't smell any tobacco. The Jubiläumsmischung is easy to bring into the pipe and once lighted it burns nice and slow until there's only a small amount of light gray ashes left in the pipe. The fruit blend is strong but not too strong or too synthetic to overcome the nice tobacco flavours. I do notice a blend of citrus until the end but just in the background, underlining the tobacco. During the smoke some spicy flavours show up and combine with the sweetness in a very interesting way. There is also a vanilla flavoring hardly noticeable and the room note is sweet and fruity only. Untill now my favourite aromatic. Worth all the money. More of that please!
