Cornell & Diehl Blenheim
(2.80)
A rich, full flavored mixture combining mild aromatics (has a little anise taste) with English style blending as in Blend #7.
Notes: This was an Atlas Blending Corp. mixture. Cornell and Diehl bought the rights of all their old recipes.

It has been a couple of years since I've posted any C&D blend reviews and I have smoked nearly 100 tins of their various offerings in that time. So, it may be awhile before I get to all of them. I'm not sure whether Blenheim is still being produced, but if so, its a pretty unique blend as they added Anise (Licorice) to a presentation that included Latakia and Perique. It actually worked as all of the complimentary components came off evenly. I thought maybe it was Licorice with spice as the Perique combined with it favorably. Not something I wanted to smoke a lot of, so, I took it to the tobacco bar of our monthly pipe club meeting, but am glad I had the opportunity to try it. And the Burley in this one did have the sauce, but also a little bit of a nic kick.

A good English mixture in which to transition from light to medium. The room note can be a bit pungent at times for some people but it has a light taste great for relaxing.

This is a sleeper. A little of this and a little of that, a handful of burley spiced with perique, latakia, and a very light dose of topping. If you are a full English lover this blend won't ring your bell, but if you prefer latakia as a condimental this blend is worth a trial. The perique builds into the smoke.

This an interesting blend. It looks like an even mix of tan, brown, and some black flecks (latikia?) and had more of an english blend scent upon opening the pouch, but that is where any english blend comparison ends. It lights easily and stays lit all the way down the bowl with no gurgle. What was surprising is there is a flavor that comes through which I suppose is the anise. I liked the flavor though I would not of said anise was the flavoring. Intially it caught me off gaurd. When I smoked cigarettes years ago I smoked menthol and this flavoring seemed to have a light whispy quality that was similar to mint without tasting like mint if that makes any sense. It is worth a try for those looking for a change of pace but I'd especially recommend it to aromatic smokers that want a blend that is not so heavily flavored as most aromatics. I also read recently that absinthe is becoming a trendy drink so those folks as well if they smoke a pipe.

One of the better bulk blends from C&D. I don't know that I would call this an English-style blend as the Burley is the dominant component that I taste. It just tastes like a good, rich, full-flavored tobacco that is quite satisfying.
