A few years back I too a trip down memory lane by smoking some of the late Jay Jones Holiday Blends. The 1997 was a favorite because Jay must have found a nice stash of Red Virginia and used his antique press to make the presentation an easy to break up Krumble Kake. Maybe it's because I didn't smoke this one until 2011, but I didn't taste any topping, just sweet, ripe Virginia that was super pleasing.

Hermit tobacco comes out with an aromatic Holiday blend every year. I typically buy two tins of their annual blend. One to smoke the following Christmas and one to cellar. I have finally opened my 1997 cellar and I can say that it was worth the wait. The tobacco is slightly moist but very easy to light. The honey casing is light and refreshing. The majority of the blend is red VA and leaves no tongue bite. It is a very nice change of pace for this heavy Latakia smoker!
