Fader's Shops in Maryland have been around since Moses crossed the Red Sea (well, almost), and their house blends are always appreciated by me. I have smoked many of them over the years and went back to my notebook for some, but others are recent "smokes" when my local pipe club had a "Fader's Night" at the Tobacco Bar a year or so ago.
Renaissance is a palate blowing weed with full English flavor that just reaches the precipice of being over the top. Lots of smoky Latakia, a healthy dose of Perique mixed in with some Virginia and Oriental components, too. Not nearly as nicotine heavy as you might think once you've had a few tugs on the pipe because the flavor is so strong and meaty. I have smoked this blend in the early evening with a brew before supper. Nice!

An overly-used term on products and trends that usually deliver less than promised, though in this case, Renaissance is wholly warranted. By far one of the most interesting sweet English blends you can ever try; not as full, classic English as indicated above. At times it?s dull and unassuming, at others, assertive and faintly aromatic. It?s the excellent, untreated black Cavendish that gives this blend its unique charm. The taste and aroma are toasty and satisfying. Like Wilke, Faders has a Cavendish quality that?s all its own. It?s a distinctive identifier that makes this an all day new favorite. Given the unpredictability of C & D blends and horrid Europeans (I know I keep repeating this), it?s good to know there are still some consistent friends on whom one can, hopefully, always rely.

I think the best description of this blend would be the following: Stronger than British Woods and Milder than 3 Oaks. It has that McClelland quality to it. I enjoyed it as a diversion from my heavier Balkan blends. Good stuff. 3 Sweet English Stars.
