Wilke Pipe Tobacco Wilke No. 194

(3.00)
This mixture blends together Wilke's famous Royal Scot with the unique flavor of Wilke's toasted Black Cavendish. A delightful aromatic, that's not too sweet.

The nutty, earthy, woody, molasses sweet burley is the most obvious varietal. The toasted black cavendish is indeed toasty with a light sugariness as a supporting player. The grassy, citrusy bright Virginia is a condiment in regard to its effect. The Royal Scot topping is mildly sweet and sublimates the tobaccos to a moderate extent. I don’t know what the topping consists of, but I get a little vanilla, caramel, possibly a few drops of maple, and a light floral note from it. The strength level is mild, while the taste falls a tad short of the center of mild to medium. The nic-hit is very mild. Won’t bite or get harsh. Burns cool and very clean (meaning no chemical notes) at a reasonable pace with a consistent, mildly sweet flavor that partly reminds me of something you’d taste in a bakery. Leaves little dampness in the bowl, and requires an average number of relights. Has a very pleasant, short lived after taste and room note. Can be an all day smoke. Two and a half stars rounded up to three.

I really like #191, but also find this tobacco to be very pleasant.

This blend has a wonderful flavor and those around you will also find it to have a pleasant aroma. It is not too strong, but provides enough body to be very satisfying. It stays lit and does not burn too hot.

If you smoke aromatics, this is about as good as it gets. A well behaved tobacco which lights easily, smokes really well and a the end of a bowl you start reaching for another match to re-light it because you can't believe its all gone up in smoke. For those of you who may not know, Ms Carole Burns is the blender of PW&W tobaccos. She has a fine hand on what is good and what's not in tobacco blends. I've smoked several PW&W blends and while I don't like them all, #194, in my opinion is the finest of the aromatic blends coming out of her shop. For a bulk tobacco it is a tad expensive but IMO, well worth it. Try it, You will like it and if you don't, I'll pay for the shipping to me.

As much as I love Royal Scot and Wilke's toasted cavendish I cannot recommend this blend. It is like taking your favorite salad and combining it with your favorite desert. It just does not work here. Burns cool and has flavor ,but that flavor is not pleasant. It reminds me of a really bad "NORSE GOLD" by the Tinderbox. Get the Roayl Scot by itself and you will have a far better experience. Sorry, Wilke took a tumble on this one. 2 stars only and 1 of those is just because I love Wilke tobaccos.
